Guest Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Nanofil. You really don't need to throw less than 8 lb maybe the 10 lb or 12 lb. 10 lb Nanofil has the diameter of about 4 pound diameter mono. Alberto in your leader of choice. I'm begging somebody to tell me why I should use a fluro leader instead of mono. because its cool
Guest Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 gamma makes good line if you can find it. some of the best mono on the market, but they discontinued it
dtrs5kprs Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 The excel is surprisingly good mono. Fished quite a bit of it on the recent trip. In wind it seems the fluoro handles better than the same test mono. Might just be due to the fact I do not really tight line anything.
Guest Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Bill's maxima is really good, I have to admit that I don't like it but it produced good results. Its more about the rod than the line it seems. Most people including myself, set the hook too hard with light line. As for Nanofil, i didn't like its slick feel vs braids smooth cloth like feel. just preference I guess Suffix elite is really good for spinning reels, so is Gamma but its not available.
rps Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Back in the day - Charlie Brewer slider fishing day - the magazine articles all emphasized that no "hook set" was needed. Instead they recommended a broad sweep with the rod held low and to the side. More than enough pressure to set the small hook and less line up in the wind ready to become slack. For me this is easy as it is exactly the same motion you use when fishing a nightcrawler on a lindy rig or a worm harness. I am happy fishing 10# Suffix braid joined to an 8 to 10 foot Yozuri leader in 6# with a Crazy Alberto knot. I check the drag setting frequently by pulling line from the spool. An ideal setting allows just the tiniest bit of drag slip when I sweep the bait to hook up. I just wish I was better at catching with the rig. I miss many bites.
willyfish Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Love this forum, just wanted an opinion on line for spinning reels. You guys are sickos and I love ya for it. Be down next week can't wait

willyfish Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 I'm gonna throw this Ned rig for a sec, it's almost has become the a-rig on here. This lake is all about the weather. Who knows I'll let the sun and wind tell me
evilcatfish Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I don't post much so take my line suggestion however you like, but I've taken to using P Line PF Original on every rod I have except my frog rod and 1 dropshot/finesse rod. Been using using 6-30# depending on the setup and have no complaints
