In response to using Yozuri Hybrid. I want to mention that the only short coming that I found out the hard way is if you tie an overhand loop knot with the stuff it breaks at the knot really easy. To overcome this use a double overhand loop knot. Have not seen this in other lines.

Bill's maxima is really good, I have to admit that I don't like it but it produced good results.

Its more about the rod than the line it seems.

Most people including myself, set the hook too hard with light line.

As for Nanofil, i didn't like its slick feel vs braids smooth cloth like feel. just preference I guess

Suffix elite is really good for spinning reels, so is Gamma but its not available.

Gamma is available. Black knight industries bought them. Available on line.

If Gamma has been discontinued, it's news to me. That's all I've used the last 5 years or more, I've always bought it from Fin N' Feather and just dropped in there today to restock on my Gamma. It's also available online too as RNG stated.

What pound test Nanofil did you try Jim? It will definitely break at the listed break strength. IF I choose to use a higher test leader than the listed strength of the Nanofil, I KNOW it is going to break the nanofil before it breaks the leader when I dead pull a snag.

Using UL, L and ML spinning rods, I have not broken off the Nanofil on the hookset a single time. I started using Nanofil last August and have gradually added it to more and more rods. More than half of my spinning rods are spooled with Nanofil at this point.

I have no interest in Nanofil on a baitcaster.

I want to say I was using 10lb. Had absolutely no forgiveness to it. Snag it on something and snap, had a fish on and snap. I actually don't think I landed a fish on that rod the day I had all the problems with it.

Maybe it was because I had the drag too tight, but using those other lines it takes a whole lot more to break a snag than the instant snap breakage I was getting with the Nanofil.

This is the set up I have gone to on all my spinning rods and reals.

Rods St. Croix Mojo Bass or Shimano Crucial

Reels Quantuam Or Shimano

Line Power Pro 5lb Hi-Vis Yellow - getting old and eyes aren't what they use to be.

Leader - this changes depending on the technique I am using. Leader length 10 to 15 feet attached to line with Albright Knot.

Drop Shot / Split Shot - 8lb Seagur Invizx fluorocarbon

Grub/Ned - 6 lb Suffix Mono green

Drag set to 50 percent of the test lb rating of the leader.

Side sweep hook set - you can hear the drag on most hook sets,

windy days with the ned rig - make sure your line is wet and keep your rod tip low to the water.

Back in the day, I had those problems with the original version of Fireline. It was very strong if you slowly loaded it, but I popped 20 pound stuff repeatedly on a quick wrist snap.

I simply have not had the problems you have had. While Nano is much thinner than an equivalent pound test mono, you don't get the hyper strength of braid. 10 pound Nanofil is what I would suggest for most ppl's first trial of Nanofil. I am using 6 pound for trout to get really small diameter and I've caught a pile of non trout on it, but it isn't necessary to go that slim.

I have now broken a few bass off on 6 pound leader getting wrapped on wood or them just powering off and forcing the issue on a weak spot. The three or four times the nano has broken has been a dead pull against a snag situation when my leader material was a higher pound test that the Nanofil.

My buddy uses the 12 pound with no noticeable negatives. He gets seemingly the same number of bites and his casting distance is fine.

I do keep my drag set that I have a little slip at the end of the hookset and that a really hot fish is going to be able to pull some drag.

Gamma still makes copolymer. I just bought 1000 yards.

While nanofil is nice and thin and casts a mile I had a horrible experience with it snapping every time I set the hook. Really got tired of losing lures with it so it came off and went in the trash for some P-line CX Premium and YoZuri Hybrid. I like the P-Line better.

I experienced the same problem with nanofil. I finally found I had a problem with a chipped ceramic guide you could'nt even see witth the naked eye. Could feel it with my fingernail though. It cut my line. I replaced the guide and had no more problems. Worth checking out. I like maxima and nanofil, depends what I'm doing. Not much of a floro fan.
