Zara spook jr in Okie Shad is my current favorite

I'm not sure color makes a lot of difference. I use only light colors that loosely imitate minnows. In the Sexy Dawg, though, my favorite is the one with kinda butterscotch colored sides and a bit of purplish on the back. In the Sammy, probably chartreuse shad is the only color you'd really need.

Clear, bone, and blue or green with a white bottom. Spook Jr. and Top Dollar are both inexpensive and I will vouch for the fish catching ability of both.

Do the butterscotch sides work for any particular reason? I figured that the belly of things they are going to attack on the surface would be gray to pearl in color, unless I am wrong.

Size and cadence seem to matter more than color. I do prefer translucent minnow colors, but opaque, and flashy colors have a place in your box too. Carry a couple sizes between 2.5-5". Usually start with a 4" model.

I think JoeD and Gavin nailed it....Cadence over color. But I just gotta have those custom paint jobs.!!!! Actually one of the best producing topwater baits I've seen is a simple wooden Zipstick, made by our own Zipstick. It's a no rattle, natural wood colored cylinder with tapered ends.
