Moswimb8slinger Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I fished the gaint 10.5" gizzard shad Glide again today around the Dam Area. Again countless follows by kentucky's, even a 9 member wolf pack all 16-17 inches long following the big bait to the shore. Fished it around Poverty point and had a 4-5lbs green fatty literally flipped over the bait, reminded me of the Great white sharks on Discovery knocking the seal decoy out of the water. Mostly their just slapping that big bait and 6inch baits, tried smaller baits and wouldn't get a sniff. The Kentucky are around, they clearly show their curiosity with this bait

I'm sure you get some bewildered looks flinging that thing around, I know I do anytime I'm tossing big baits at any of the local lakes. Of course that's from the same guys who think a Super Spook is too big to catch a fish I've only been down to Table Rock once this year and only got out for 2 days of fishing, one around Shell Knob and one day around Baxter. We boated gobs of fish and a majority of them were keepers or very near keeper spots.
merc1997 Bo Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 fished around big m tonight and caught over a dozen keepers. four or five were keeper kentuckies. not one bass we caught had any signs of spawning. all were fat and not a mark on them. most were in the 10 to 15 ft. range, and a few were 20 ft. it certainly is a different year than normal. bo

Lvn2Fish Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 During the spawn I was putting in at the state park and catching a ton of keeper spots . 20 plus a few days in a row. With several being 3 pound fish. Also caught alot of 14 inch spotted bass. These fish were all spawing in 15-20 feet of water in the back end of the creeks and coves. They are still healthy and in the lake. Maybe try a bit more shallow. They seem to be up in 15 ft. towards the backs of the pockets. I believe the spawn is over. I was down two weeks ago and caught alot of brown fish that were skinny and beat up . And seen many spots on the beds. It was nothing to catch 10-15 spots in a 50 yard stretch. These fish were all spawing around wood.
Moswimb8slinger Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Yeah, most people think i caught a fish, then i cast it back in the water.lol its about 4 to 5oz. My buddy Kevin Brightwell makes and paints them. This is a prototype batch of these glides. I'm hoping to get one of Bull Shoals elusive stripers on it here soon. Here's a couple of his other baits. He can paint them what ever color

Members Bobby P. Posted May 28, 2014 Members Posted May 28, 2014 I caught a decent Kentucky in the back of the old 86/campground cove yesterday on the redfin.
Bill Babler Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Guys, I'm not saying we are not catching any K's. What I am saying is we are not catching the numbers the last two years and the size is a lot larger than average. I did have a few days I only caught Jaws, but we are used to 30 fish 4 hr. trips this time of the year on K's with a LM and several Jaw's thrown in to boot. Not seeing the numbers of fish under the 11 inch mark. Remember it takes a K 7 yrs. to reach 15 inches, that is how they can judge year class results by the numbers the creel checkers ask of the size we are catching. Also on the followers, be sure that what you think are bass, are bass. For the last month most catches have been followed by Gizzard Shad up to 14". Most of these shad are about 10 to 12 inch and they sure look like bass when 1/2 a dozen are swarming under your hooked fish. All the guides are reporting huge numbers of Gizzard Shad following caught fish, so be sure of what you are looking at. Give them an extra close look. If your not seeing Gizzard Shad swimming under your fish you are not looking. One day last week we had close to 90 bass in a 6 hr. trip and 3/4 of them came in with Big, big shad swimming under them. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Moswimb8slinger Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 As clear as the water is...they're clearly bass
