The bees have put a stop to the feeders. They don't bother them during a honey flow, but when the dearth comes in late summer, they swarm the feeders.

I still enjoy them flying around. Once they get accustomed to a feeder, the hummers will keep coming back. I have several buzz my head where the feeders used to be.

I've used 4-1 also and I think that is what is recommended. I bring mine to a boil and let it cool and change it every week. Ants are a problem here, and I imagine lots of places. They get into the feeder and drown. Petroleum jelly helps, just grease the hangar every so often.

I used a wad of hi temp grease on the poles that held the feeders and it worked really well, Did not wash off in the rain.

I mixed a rich solution of 2 1/2 to one to bring them in but it hasn't worked. can you mix it too sweet?

I have read that you want a balance in order to avoid wild yeasts from fermenting it. That's the reason they say it is a good idea to change it every 7-10 days.

Does anyone remember the old cafe in Roaring River? They had an overhang down both sides that had feeders about 3 or 4 feet apart and the hummingbirds were thicker than I've ever seen. BilletHead you're getting close.

Well nesting might be on the downward trend as we had a low of two to three for a while. Now back up to fifteen or so early morning and again late evenings. Rainy days there are here all day. Now that butterflies are getting thick they have to share feeders some,
