dtrs5kprs Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 jason, i have tangled with the water patrol for years for one, not using a bit of common sense. two, seemingly always targeting bass fisherman, when the barge traffic, crotch rockets, and tourists that have not business on the water during the day let alone at night. even the boats that the water patrol run now throw out too big of a wave. in fact, last year one came by while we were fishing before dark, and the wake came over the side of a pantera. i was not happy. we seriously need to have an operators test for anyone to operate a boat on the water. there is too much traffic for dummies to be out operating a boat. i see way too many tourist running over very dangerous stuff. to them if it is wet, it is good. i do not know how we do not have way more serious accidents because of idiots pulling their kids over timber that is about six inches under water.bo Spot on. You want to have cringeworthy moments, just fish on either side of Point 7 for a while and watch folks show zero respect for all that wood. Same happens way back in Schooner and Whites. Told my kids this week that I did not really mind the ski/pleasure folks, but would hate to see anyone break a back or get impaled by a big cedar top.
fishingaddiction Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Then we need to contact congress to get some actions going. Now who do the dock owners get the permission from to put no wake buoys out in front of their docks???? I'd like to get some across the mouth of Piney Creek............ We have "NO WAKE" buoys out in front of our dock in Mill Creek and not many pay any attention to them. On a busy weekend you can watch numerous large boats pass between the dock and the buoy. I haven't seen a water patrol boat anywhere on TR in the past two summers. It is absolutely crazy. This past Sunday I had a time just trying to avoid all of the boats up in Mill Creek just to get out to the main lake. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Goggle-Eyed Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Just watched a pair of jet skis using a row of no wake buoys like a slalom course here on the Niangua Arm of LOZ.... Seriously, drives me nuts and I am on the still quiet side of the lake. I can't imagine what Old Plug is witnessing with the couple of bars that have been added on his end... Luckily I really only have Ha Ha Tonka above me, much more than that and the idiots tear up there equipment!!! LOL, I have actually towed so many people back to the "bridge" I have lost track. Some have offered stupid amounts of money, others a cold beverage... I have passed on all and just said "help me if I am in need"!!!!
fishinwrench Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Any chance we all could just get along? I have a fish n ski, my daughter has a jetski. I have spent the last 35 years on the rock, have seen a lot of change. In the old days dad took me fishing in the morning, then when it got hot we broke out the water skis and tubes. I can understand the big boat problem with the wakes, does cause a problem but I just roll with it. The lakes our more crowded, everybody has a right to be there.. I will be fishing on sat morning, rest of family will be down sat afternoon, glad to put the rods in the rodbox and pull out the skis and take the family skiing.. ....And there are big wide mainlake areas just perfect for driving around in circles like that. There is no justifiable reason to run circles up and down the narrower creek arms repeatedly, is there?
GNSfishing Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 You know we are all preaching to the choir, we need to be the squeaky wheel somewhere it will get attention of the appropriate person or people. I'm not sure where our attention needs to be directed to whom. If someone knows please post here so we all can focus our input. The old saying is "The Squeaky Wheel Is The One That Gets The Grease".....

That's one of the problems, very little if any presents of law enforcement on the Missouri Lakes any more. Ever since the water patrol was combined into the State Highway Patrol there has been less presents on the water and the people know that. Our state government decided that the water patrol division wasn't doing enough so they were put on the highways which reduced their presents on the lakes. One thing I did notice was the Water Patrol was setting at the buoy line at State Park every morning on take-off of the Bassmasters Elite tournament this spring. So it looks like the enforcement or observation of the boating laws is more concentrated on the tournament fishermen.... Than anyone else
Old plug Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 BIll I am surprised you did not mention that in Missouri you are not responsible for your wake. That would be nice if they were. I know you were here long enough to know there were pot shots taken at big boats. I have never seen a wake board on LOZ there are so many wakes you could not ride it. I also heard from somebody not a former patrolman that this kid that drowned was real nasty to deal with and resisted arrest. I understand they have a camera recording of it. His boat was equipped with one. He has also been returned to duty.

Wrench you should see this guy in this big white cruiser about 60 ft long that runs a wake for people to jump. He comes down the middle of Soap in the evening now and then. he starts that crap all the way back up by the gas station.

There's no shortage of them on LO it seems, until you want/need one. LOL I'd like to have one observe (for a day) this seaplane that takes off and lands 70+ times per week out of Coconut's. Not sure how this guy aquired his immunity but if that sucker doesn't crash this season I'll be amazed. For as much airtime as that craft is getting there is no way that it is getting the maintainance it needs.
Old plug Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Goggle-eyed We have real good patrol presents here on week ends They have been busting a lot of people. But they do need to do something about bars. I heard yesterday that CoCo Nuts has bought out the old millstone and going to turn it into some kind of extravaganza. Whoever owns COCO NUTS is really running his wheel fast and hard. He might just run his train off its tracks if he keeps it up. I spent over 6 yrs on the flight deck of a carrier and have seen all kinds of crashes some of the stuff they have been doing is asking for it. I am just waiting for that pilot to stuff that thing into a house full of people. He gets so low he has no safety margin. sometimes down to a few feet off the water are roof tops.
