Pepe Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Is anyone using tied hair jigs at all on TR? I have a friend who swears by them on TVA reservoirs but have not heard anything here.
Mitch f Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 It's funny how people go thru trends at certain lakes. I remember when hair jigs really produced fish at TR and for some reason I don't hear of many people using them anymore. I'm sure they still work great! Old plug Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I think mostly Mitch it is mainly a personal selection. My self when I started out that is about all there was as far as bass go. Given my druthers it would still take a well made and balance hair jig over anything else. i do not remember what brand I bought but they were we dressed in buck tail just the right amount of hair for the jigs weight. .
abkeenan Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 They just had a major BOOM in popularity after the BASS Elite tournament at Lake Chickamauga where half the pro field was throwing big 1oz hair jigs. That is usually how stuff comes around and goes around. Once something older and not used as much is effective again it see's a resurgence in popularity. Big "Magnum" 8" spoons are now the deal as well due to use by the BASS and FLW guys.
Members oldasdirt Posted July 14, 2014 Members Posted July 14, 2014 I would be interested in buying a 4 or 5 inch hair jig if anyone knows a place around Branson to pick some up.
ness Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Fish don't eat them anymore. They're focused on Ned rigs these days. Hair jigs may make a comeback someday, so you should keep a few on the tackle box. But don't bother fishing them now. John

merc1997 Bo Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 hair jigs do have a time and place. of course, people in this area know of how effective hair jigs can be in cold water situations. however, we are at a time right now that the hair jig can be utilized, and that is because bass are turning their focus to shad. a hair jig coupled with a slender trailer is just as or more effective than a plastic worm. the hair jig creates a slender profile and coupled with a slender trailer more resembles a shad. hair jigs are one of those staples that you should keep in your tackle arsenal. bo
Pepe Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 I plan to work with my friend to get a batch made, so if you have some specific ideas/requests ping me. I can't say I have ever used one.

Are you thinking of smaller jigs or large ones? The ones the boys have been throwing in the TVA lakes are 4 -6" long.
