Favorite Stream For Numbers

My favorite stretches are constantly declining, year after year. I don't need anything to speed up the process.

I know a stream that has a bigger density of smallmouth than I have ever seen anywhere else. I do not mention it's name because it would not be a place that you would enjoy floating. I don't mention the name of anyplace else because I do not think that it matters. Get below I44 and there are plenty of options.

The biggest thing about quantity over quality are the baits you are using. If you want your friends to catch a lot of fish and have a good time they should be using a rooster tail or a teeny craw. Those will put up the numbers and might surprise you with a decent fish.

I would second the use of a Teeny Craw for pure numbers of smallmouth (along with most everything else in what ever river you are fishing.) On very few streams will you struggle to catch a good number of fish on those. It's the closest there is to a sure thing.

There are streams in the Ozarks with Bass in them? Good luck getting that information a man would be more willing to give you his dog and wife first.

Thinking the little varmit(Ned rig) is my best numbers bait. It catches darn near everything. Usually fish it on an 1/16 or 1/8oz weed less jig head.

this post is funny and sad. I responded first in jest. But it seems to be the common thought process. No one wants to give away "what they have". What happened to the "share the wealth mentality"?

Don't forget, the best way to get large numbers of smallmouth is with a gig. From what I hear on this site, it takes more smallies than any other method. I hear tell it has almost wiped them out in most streams.

The internet creates a permanent record of everything. Search engines are so powerful they scare me... these streams are far too precious to announce on the internet which stream has good numbers of fish.

No worries all, again I have my opinions. I was looking at it from more of a "oh I forgot about that river/creek or stretch or whatever" and just a conversation. I agree with alot of you who said that some of your best waters are now degraded. And as for location Im open. Mostly stay within a couple hours of Springfield. Havent made it up to the Meramac, St Francois etc. And yes I do like the smaller crawdad imitations for numbers, also pick up more google eyes and the occasional larger fish. Thanks

Also, it's really funny if anybody thinks they have a secret spot. Every stream is on a map and anybody with half a brain knows they have fish in them. The ONLY thing that makes any stream reach better than average will be how hard it is to access it. And that's it.
