Jerry Rapp Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 we go to Black River most every weekend or two. Hadn't seen a water snake all year until yesterday. Usually they are aggressive little buggers in June, coming around when I am chumming up some minners and chubs to catch so the dogs can play with them. I hadn't seen one all year, but yesterday 3 or 4 did drive by's to see what is going on. I have never seen this snake activity so late in the summer.
Mitch f Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 This year is just strange in general.....weather, fishing, etc "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Members oldasdirt Posted August 4, 2014 Members Posted August 4, 2014 I was wading the east fork back when it had some great small mouth. I was mid step and looked down the mouth of the biggest cotton mouth i ever saw why it didn't swallow me I'll never know. But things have changed. Haven't seen a cotton mouth on the black for a long time nor any nice small mouth either.

Quillback Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Come to think of it, I have not seen many snakes this year. Lots of lizards however.
bfishn Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 All the ambitious snakes moved into finance & politics. I can't dance like I used to.
Goggle-Eyed Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Floated the lower section of the Niangua Saturday and didn't see a single snake, I have seen as many as 15-20 on this section in years past. No complaints from me...
