Ham Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Hey Guys, I've converted from indandescent tail lights to LED lights. I got a mish mash or leftover tail lights if anyone is interested in them. I've going to be changing from a traditional axle to the Vault system using a hybrid lubricant that is a sealed system that is supposed to be maintainence free and go to go for 5 years. I'll have a left over hub that's in good shape and an axle. So shoot me a PM if you have any interest in those items as well. My folks grew up during the depression and I hate to throw out stuff that has value, but I'd rather not be a hoader. Eventually, I'll need to clear this stuff out for our move to the bluff. It'll go to the dump in November. Tick, tick, tick. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Terrierman Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 LED is a good move. Vault looks like a fancy bearing buddy. I keep mine full of grease and have never had a bearing problem on a boat trailer since I started using them.
Ham Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 I hear ya Rick. I've lost multiple Bearing Buddys on multiple boats. One the Bearing Buddy goes. The bearing is toast. If a rear seal fails and you don't notice quickly, the bearing is toast. It isn't a cost saving move for me, but hopefully an end to the BS trailer issues for 5 years. I'll still have to deal with Bearing Buddies on the Bass Cat. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
jdmidwest Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 My Tracker trailer has the Bearing Buddies too. I have been fighting them this summer, one flew off on the Interstate somewhere, hope it did not fly thru a window. Another crapped out on a back road, I drove a hour or more flinging grease all over. The bearings are still good, but one seems to be leaking inside the hub. Where do you get a seal to repair it? From the looks of the trailer, the hubs and the caps are all Bearing Buddies. The spindles have a zerk fitting also that prohibits install of a regular cap. Ham Posted August 6, 2014 Author Posted August 6, 2014 Woot Woot! The good folks at EZ Loader just called to tell me the custom axle is ready. Painted to match the trailer and everything. I'll pick it up tomorrow and install that sucker Friday. My sorry butt will be on the river ALL DAY Saturday looking to catch every trout I can. I'm so excited. JD, 870-481-5911 is the phone number at EZ Loader. IF EZ LOADER (TI INDUSTRIIES) built your trailer, they'll be able to tell you what you need. They are very helpful. Ask for parts and they should be able to help you. You obviously don't have to buy from them, but you'd know you were getting the right parts. Regardless you need to replace the rear seal and clean/repack your bearings. Replace the bearings if they are pitted or rusted. You would need to make sure you are getting a rear seal with a double lip. The existing bearings will have numbers that will allow a parts store sell you an equivalent. IF you need new bearings you most likely need new races as well. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
fishinwrench Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Once you experience trailer bearing failure on a trip far from home you'll never let it happen again. Most guys (myself included) are overly anal about trailer wheel bearing maintenance. And it's for a good reason. Personally I don't trust the sealed axle systems any more than I do the old school stuff. And acquiring the tools, parts and/or service for a new style axle system IF it DOES fail in Podunk, MO/AR.....Yeah, good luck !

The vast majority of my trailering is local, but I'd love to be more comfortable dragging it hither and yon. Trying to stay positive. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Ham Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Hey Jeff, We've bought a bluff lot in Marion County that looks across at Cotter. We can see the Rainbow Bridge to the left and Roundhouse shoals down to the right. Finishing out an existing structure for now, building more and better later. We'll need to sell our current home eventually. We'll officially put it on the market in March. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
