Pepe Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Has anyone tried using a prop rigged for swimming on a jig & grub?. The Whistler Jig is designed for live bait and has a bend in the hook to hold the prop & bead in place. http://www.northlandtackle.com/Category/main.taf?cat=55 It works for walleye and pike in Canada on a cast and retrieve. I'm not sure how a grub would look on it though.

I mainly used pink and orange heads with a black or silver 3" grub
5bites Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I threw the duo realis 80 this weekend some. I never had a great opportunity to use it the way others have been. I was in dirtier water than these were designed for most of the time. It's a neat bait though and I will be keeping it on hand to learn more about it. It casts like a rock too.
Quillback Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm thinking this fall when the bass are chasing shad, might be a good time to fish the Duo.
Champ188 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm like Babler ... I'd like to learn more about catching suspenders on it when there's no surface activity. This fall should be a good time for that, too. I'd especially like one of those 4-pound TR spots to latch onto it!
5bites Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm thinking this fall when the bass are chasing shad, might be a good time to fish the Duo. I think you're right. I saw zero schooling activity this weekend. Just one here and one there. I was to busy with a big worm and square bill to mess with throwing the spy bait. Not that I was hauling them in but I was learning a new area. I think it's got potential as a bridge bait too. I want to try the 90 and gfix on 8lb flouro using baitcasting gear. Zipping it around docks and cedars could be a good thing at times.
Fish24/7 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuZBUox_zj2e50eswxKqk-nICa9fcOlwo these DUO movies were fun to watch
Fish24/7 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 im going to invest in a couple and after reading bill's review i.m going to hook it up to a Boo Yah single blade Boo rig and try it on suspending fish and also on the flats where ive been catching some good fish last couple of weeks i like that idea
Guest Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I got my new toy in the mail. Its surprisingly small & delicate looking. Paint job is top notch, The lead weights are pretty heavy in comparison to a jerkbait. The front prop spins freely & the back is about 30% more friction, not sure why. The props seem to be an afterthought or window dressing versus a function of the design. Its a head scratcher, but the Japanese are refining something here. I've seen enough YouTube videos to see how others fish it. I will not be using #4 test, I'm starting with 8# & will drop to 6# if necessary.
