aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 My brother got this nice 23 pounder. He got to the lake a day before i did and decided to free dive a little bit. he said it was under a small brush pile in around 20'. So on his first dive he came up with this one.. For the folks that dont spear fish getting one like this on a free dive is 1 in 10,000. I dont know how many miles of lake we have dove this year and havent came across one that big. After i got down there we put a few nice crappie in the boat saw a few short walleye and they were actually just sitting dead still all camo'd up trying to blend with the bottom. Usually when we see walleye they are always on the move. Thermocline was right at about 38'. The water is very warm all the way down to 38. Crappie were in 20 ft, bass were scattered all through the column down to the thermocline. Bass were still real tight to cover along with the crappie
Members ericangler Posted September 5, 2014 Members Posted September 5, 2014 when i was a kid a couple of divers came in at 125 and said they saw some catfish as big as car hoods on the bluff across from the ramp, said they wouldnt dive there again.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 That's absolutely rediculas. It's always the city people that say stuff like than. And they usually say it's the catfish by the dam. Biggest myth in fishing has to be the man eating catfish by the dam. I usually just end the conversation there
ollie Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 That old story has been going around for decades! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 You mean the giant catfish in front of Bagnell in the 50's are gone! Yep. But the ones around Clarence Cannon dam are twice the size !
steveearle Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I grew up near the Miss River...I thought it was every lock and dam there that had catfish bigger than the divers.

I believe you ericangler If you've never caught an 80+ lb cat they ARE as big as a car hood, pushing 60" I use a big stick, 6500 reel, 80-100lb test, 9/0 circle hooks w/ a 1/2lb. of cut bait and/or 10-12" live baits I'd be more leery of the largest loggerhead turtles in the USA , maybe the world, that are living in BS right now.
