I saw these little gems at cabelas today.

I betcha it can be modified to cast on a ML action spinning rod. Those smallmouth of yours might choke it down.

Just add a splitshot to it. Maybe two depending on the size of shot you are using. That will get it where you need it. You can also Carolina rig it and get some outstading results.

I'm like Seth, too stubborn to use curly tail grubs except as spinnerbait and buzzbait trailers, but the things are still the most versatile lures you can use. It's always my stock answer to the "if you could only have one lure" question.

Paul Dallas caught this greenie just yesterday. Deepest hole on a small creek (probably less than 50 cfs through the summer)

Yeah, its topwater or nothing for me. But ultralight tackle isn't going to throw what I'm pitching. Didn't catch a lot, but all my fish were good sized.

Yea I have an ultralite I love. I mainly fish 3" curly tail grubs on a 1/16 oz jig head. In the spring it is my #1 on spinning gear. You can fish a bitsy bug on it but it definitely isn't ideal.

That's good bass.
