Greasy B Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 For me the most important thing with a Bluegill bug is visibility. I need a bright bug with white legs so I know that when it disappears it's in a fishes mouth. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Gavin Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Carter's dragon or anthing small with rubber legs.
Geoff Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I think I hear a STL challenge. 3 weights at high noon (insert old western movie music here) I accept and raise your challange to 2wts at noon!! "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
fishinwrench Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 This little number here always does the job for me. Big gills love something dark and fuzzy slowly sinking next to some cover. Seems like I never catch anything but little farts if I try to impart any action to a fly. I just let it slowly sink and check every 5-6 seconds to see if something has eaten it yet.
Chris Barclay Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Very nice, Wrench! Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
mic Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Got an extra one.... I accept and raise your challange to 2wts at noon!!
mic Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 JD... got any pics? I tye a black soft hackle on a size 10 curved nymph hook that is pretty deadly. Simple fly, black antron body ribbed with a fine copper wire and a dark dyed partridge or starling feather hackle. The longer curved shank helps remove the hook better. Dead drift or strip, or just let it bob under an indicator.
mic Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Concur... I'll have to try some of those. This little number here always does the job for me. fishinwrench Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 BUB fly, wrench? Yep, minus the front legs. You cant get enough lead on a size 12 hook to get the right sink rate unless you cut back on the rubber some.
