jdmidwest Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I get checked hunting more than I ever do fishing. I even get checked from time to time by ones that know me by name. Its their job. Funny thing is, I have been checked on Federal Waterfowl Refuges that only let you hunt on them by providing all the licences before they let you hunt, again on the same day hunting the unit I was assigned. And don't forget to carry proper ID like a Drivers License, the Conservation License still needs a proper ID to confirm identity. Al Agnew Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I actually got checked at the Leadwood Access on Big River this spring, which was the first time in about five years. Mary and I had just finished a float down to there, and we'd left the Prius at Leadwood and the Highlander with the canoe racks at the put-in, so we pulled the canoe up on the bank and chained it to a tree, loaded the tackle and stuff in the Prius, and started to pull out to head back to get the Highlander. The agent was just coming down to the parking lot, and he kinda waved like he wanted me to stop, so I did. He asked if we'd been fishing and I told him we had and that we were going to pick up the other vehicle so we could bring it back and load the canoe. He asked if we'd caught anything, and I told him we'd caught some nice bass. "You do know the season is closed for keeping bass, don't you?" He asked. I said we did, and I never keep bass out of the river anytime. At that point he asked to see our licenses, and I handed them to him. He said, "You live in Missouri?" Yep. "Can I see your driver's license?" At that point I realized what was going on. We license our vehicles in Montana because it's cheaper and and we can since we have a residence there. He had seen the Montana license plates and figured we wouldn't know about bass season, and when I showed him my Missouri hunting and fishing license he figured something wasn't right. The Missouri driver's license really threw him a curve. The Ste. Genevieve County agent knows me well. The last time I'd been checked before this spring, I was wading my favorite close to home creek, and was about a quarter mile up the creek from the bridge where my car was parked when he came barging through the brush, splashed across the creek in his uniform and shiny shoes, and then saw it was me. "Dang it, if I'd known it was you it would have saved me a lot of wet feet and chiggers!"
Members TheBeardedTay Posted September 12, 2014 Members Posted September 12, 2014 I've been checked once, when I was in Boy Scouts at an outing up at Bennett Spring State Park. I don't mind them doing their job and all, plus I'm sure they would rather be doing something else as well...(probably fishing). I haven't been checked in a long time, and I still purchase a new one each year. Maybe it's the beard... "Fishing is much more than fish. Members Corky 69 Posted September 12, 2014 Members Posted September 12, 2014 You young guy's remember when you get to the age of 60 you can buy a Missouri Life Time Fishing License for $35.00 which includes your trout stamp. You only need a fishing license until your 65 but you will still need a trout stamp, the life time license still is good for your stamp for life time........
Haris122 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I've been checked twice so far in about 3-4 years of fishing, if I remember correctly. Once while stopping for a bit at Uehlmayer access on the Beurbouse and once at Pacific Palisades. Both times it was the usual friendly catch anything type discussion. No real problems, though the guy at Palisades did ask me to move my car for whatever reason to a different parking spot. I don't think there was a good reason to have me do that, but oh well I did it anyways. Aside from that it went fine.

ciRe Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I've been checked fishing twice in 10 years now that I have needed a license. The first time I was 18 fishing the meramec by dry fork and the second time was about 1 am on a Thursday night at a mdc boat ramp two agents Chris (I was always told he is head of St. Charles Co) and a woman I have never seen before and asked to see mine and the other two that were on the boats licenses. Asked if we kept any fish and when we said no he didn't even check my live well. Been checked hunting 5 times. Twice on private property while turkey hunting (were carrying the birds) and 3 times on the road for deer. Got a warning for not having our new transporting tags on a deer.
Gavin Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Last time was at least 10 years ago while eating lunch at Marquand Access on the Castor. My Jeep was in the shop, and Mom was out of town...So I borrowed her foreign made luxury sedan and went fishing with an old friend who's got a beard and pony tail longer than any Robertson. Guess we stuck out like a sore thumb...Clean cut guy & a Robertson with fly rods, eating deli sandwiches and drinking cheap beer out of trunk of a luxury sedan. They probably thought that we stole it.

ozark trout fisher Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Only been checked once, along the Salt River below Mark Twain a couple years ago. Really nice guy, almost seemed like he felt guilty for even checking. Little did he know that I wish I'd get my license checked more often cause that'd mean we have more enforcement along our streams.
