Guest Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 This is the county GIS webmap. You have to zoom into the area to get the parcels to display. click inside the parcel to retrieve the owners name http://arcserv.co.washington.ar.us/flex/public/
grizzly Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I can't tell you what to do, but the idea that someone is willing to shoot at another person for trespassing seems a little over the top and worth reporting to the county sheriff. I would hate to see another Meramec incident and it sounds like this guy has no problem with shooting in the general area of another person. Do what you think is best as this is ultimately your decision.
Members doohickey Posted September 24, 2014 Author Members Posted September 24, 2014 I went ahead and filed a report. I'm waiting to hear back from a deputy so we'll see. My main concern is that somebody may get hurt. Hell, I was going to take my 11 year old son with me but he ended up going to a friends house. This could have ended badly for sure.
Jason R. Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Man I fished that same stretch countless times back in college. I have been chased by a white truck once but I dodged the guy and got the heck out of there- I wonder if it was the same guy? Either way that is ridiculous. You really should press charges against that guy. There is no way to justify shooting at someone like that. If you had been armed it would have been perfectly understandable for you to shoot him back. Really really stupid thing to do on his part- regardless of trespassing. As far as I know, trespassing is either a class C or B misdemeanor (sounds like yours would be a C if you were actually charged) and is usually punishable with a small fine. Assault with a deadly weapon and/or illegal use of a fire arm (however you want to phrase it) can be a felony. http://flyinthesouth.com/
fishinwrench Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 There's a guy here in my town that got charged with unlawful use for firing a "warning shot" because he was pissed about people using his driveway entrance as a turn around spot. The charges stuck because he refused to hire a lawyer. Not sure how much different Arkansas law is, but that's the way it went down here.
Hog Wally Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I always let people fish my properties but, I say no to the dogs. They can turn people on you fast.
Al Agnew Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Yep, not much makes me more angry than somebody's dog being on my property apparently unsupervised. I've had them chasing deer, turkeys, rabbits, and my chickens, taking a dump in my yard...of my three nearest neighbors, two have dogs but the dogs stay on their side of the fence, for which I'm grateful, but I've had dogs from residents farther away coming in, and one time I had a dog chasing a half-crippled turkey that I'd been watching hang around the feeder. I was seriously thinking about giving the dog a load of birdshot when this guy came running after the dog. Turned out he had stopped on the highway a third of a mile away and when he did the dog jumped out and ran off.
Feathers and Fins Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Dogs and Cats allowed to run feral should be placed in the same category as feral hogs ( shoot on sight ). If people cared about their animals they would keep them under supervision! I have seen cats kill just for fun, and dogs well how many attacks do we have to hear about or people being chased by them before the laws get changed? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members doohickey Posted September 25, 2014 Author Members Posted September 25, 2014 I was working closely with the dog, to the point I was really hardly fishing. It is a young dog and relatvely new to me, and she had been doing fine, for at least an hour, then she just took off. I immediately followed trying to get her to come back. As I said previously, I admit the dog should not have gone up onto the property and it would ultimately have been my fault if she had been shot. However, I feel that it escalated quickly once I realized this guy was not only shooting towards me, but admitted to shooting into the water, which itself is quite dangerous. Him yelling to get off his land while shooting made it apparent to me that it wasn't just the dog this guy was trying to scare off.
Ham Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Dogs and Cats allowed to run feral should be placed in the same category as feral hogs ( shoot on sight ). That's pretty over the top. Sometimes pets find a way to get loose and wander a bit. It sown't mean that the owner doesn't care if they roam and doesn't mean the owner is being negligent. Shooting someone's pet because it encroached on your territory isn't right. You might start a really ugly situation because of your intolerance. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
