aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Ive heard the "if the gar are around the fish wont bite" i think it is kinda like the urban myth of the volkswagon size catfish around the dam that divers are scared of. This spring i didnt catch hardley any crappie but the year before was a crappie massacre in flat creek.
Ham Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Gar do feed heavily on crappie. I've seen big gar swimming with keeper crappie sideways in their mouth. I don't worry about gar and bass very much, but I do worry about throwing a Megabass when there are lots of gar around. Crappie populations are very cyclic and are somewhat like rabbits. As many as 50% of the total crappie population leave the system every year. And to that wildly flucuating success with the spawn and you can see how numbers go up and down. They are rather fond of Redfins, too. While certaiinly not as pricey as a Megabass, I sure didn't want to lose this one because it's one of those good ones that runs just right. Fortunately, I got it back.
abkeenan Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Not to be argumentative - but I know a gravel point that is a great early morning bass spot in the first part of summer, there's also some gar swimming around it, but they don't seem to bother the bass. x 2 on this. Plenty of gravel islands in the dam area in late spring/early summer that is loaded with gar rolling on the surface and have had some really good mornings on these locations.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 10, 2014 Author Posted November 10, 2014 Maybe all the residents could put in ear plugs and they could have another bow tournament but For gar instead Of Carp. Probably would have to do quite a few to put a dent in them. But it's better than letting them multiply

aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 10, 2014 Author Posted November 10, 2014 We'll hell. I thought it was just carp
Members MOhawghunter417 Posted November 19, 2014 Members Posted November 19, 2014 Maybe we could get MDC to put a $1.00 bounty on every gar brought to a comercial marina, dead or alive.

Heck Man, I could make 3 or 4 dollars a year if they offered that deal. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Pepe Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 The gar have ruined Falcon Lake Bass fishing but the Texas DNR has a low limit on them. http://www.kgns.tv/news/headlines/Alligator-gar-study-continues-at-Falcon-Lake-262554951.html?device=tablet&c=y
