BilletHead Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 What color do they prefer, oops I mean what color do they see or not see looking up that is the question? fishinwrench Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 OK let me dig my human eyeballs out, put my fish eyes in.... Soft light from directly above (mostly cloudy day ) Sitting low in the dark, looking towards soft light above Further into the dark Interesting about the purple! No surprise about chartreuse! Hot pink floro-fiber is freaking WORTHLESS, hu ? But Krystal flash works! Add in some greenish fog.... and it's anybody's guess.
ness Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 In the world of top water, the workmanship and colors are for the caster, not the castee. Those beauties would seduce any fisherman. Nice work, as always. John
Flysmallie Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Nice job Marty! Those are beautiful! I'm not sure the bass gives a rats-butt what they look like but I sure do. If you are going to spend the time to make one you might as well make it purdy. Marty unless you are 100% Copic I need to get you some of my base coat to try.
BilletHead Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 May have to try that Ronnie. The compressor came with an el cheapo air brush. Ness that's my train of thought. OK Wrench I want photos that you take. BUT I want you in about three foot of water looking straight up at a floating silhouette . Have we gone too far? I really thank you all for your input. Gavin Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Those look great! FW's pics tell the tale. What we see, and what the fish see depends on available light and the background behind the object in view. Don't think color maters that often on top, other than dark, light, and translucent. Sometimes it does. Usually go with yellow, chartreuse, or white first but orange, pink, or other wild colors work sometimes.
BilletHead Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 A few more observations today, Painted some more up this morning. Thought I would be able to bar them with the copic air. Well not for me, not steady enough and hard to pin point the air flow. Hard to explain but as seen in the copic instructions and videos the paint stream doesn't go right out the nozzle but it catches the felt pen tip and shoots at an upward angle. Anyway I can't control it very well. Soooooo I rob Mrs. Billetheads hair pic and use it for a stencil. I may be in trouble when she gets home but it is easier to get forgiveness at my house instead of permission. Here are the results of the work, Now to working up more blanks. I have found that when centering the slot for the wire form the slot sometimes doesn't come out dead center on the blank. So I did something else. Now making a two piece blank. Make equal size sides and hold them together and do your face work (dremel the cup out) . Unclamp and lay in your wire form. Do a test clamp tight so that the form seats into the balsa. Unclamp and if all looks well glue it up and squeeze the crap out of it. Much cleaner clamp and more easy in my opinion, Did two in no time this morning and they are about ready to paint, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" ness Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Ooooh. Like the pick idea. And, I've been fiddling with the two-piece bodies too. John
BilletHead Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 I think it is the way to go Ness. Many possibility's. Dremel out a chamber for a rattle? I'm working one up for a spinning rod too. I'm not into that much anymore but I have a friend who I think will throw it. It will be a popper wit two trebles. If it turns out I will share a picture, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
