While I truly prefer a weedless head, I can do a lot of fishing with a non weedless head without hanging up too bad.

I can't fish a weed less head on TR, wish I could, but unless I want to go through a dozen heads a day, it just doesn't work for me.

Most of my fishing is done on BSL and various creeks. It really hasnt been an issue. I will go thru 2 or 3 heads a day on a bad day, but some days I don't lose any.

Surprised it has not been a problem on Bull with the new pool level and bushes.

Ray Duncan is making his mushroom heads using the new eagle claw lil nasty sickle hook. and yes its nasty to handle its really sharp. i've been using the 3/32 for crappie fishing and really like it.

We are a tiny bit under 654 right now, but even at 660 it wasn't too bad as long as you watch where you throw and stay aware of whats happening.

There is a good deal of anti-guard sentiment among the "Ned community". Goes back to the fact Ned does not use weedless heads, and a feeling they will miss fish with a guard. Might be true to some degree if you are swimming it a lot. Have even talked with a couple of TR guides who prefer the heads with open hooks.

In the watershed type lakes here in NEKS and NWMO guys get by without a guard because they fish a lot of grass, rip rap, sparse wood. Not as much multi directional wood to deal with, and no dock cables. Drives me nuts trying to fish one without as guard on TR. Too much wood and brush. A guard lets you go exploring.

Would have had the weedless heads going if not for the football issues this summer. Trying to work back to that point.

you make a true statement about traditional center based weed guards missing and hooking fish poorly. but, the separated guide arms put in the correct place, will hook better and more accurately than a bare hook will.

No kidding, I can't believe no one has come to market with a snag less Ned head. Zman makes Shroom heads, but with no weed guard. About the only place you can throw one is on a gravel point.

Zman shroom heads are not worth the money imo

if your on a tight budget (me) and can't spend say $6 for 5 heads

make your own snag proof ned head/crappie jigs with a jig hook, a pinch on sinker , glue ,and a piece of wire

i can make 50 snag free, double guard, "shroom" style jigs for less than $20
