gotmuddy Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 It's that time of year, time to be a Snowbird and head south to fish for reds! Billethead, grizwilson, terrier man, let's set a date! I want to go twice this winter. Once in mid February for my memorial trip, but the other could be any time. Right now it's 63 down at freeport, and 33 here everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Ham Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Man, I'm all about it! I have the gear I want to bring and enough to share. My concerns are about what boat would we use. Are there basic boats available for rent? We can bring our own Trolling motors and outboards, but I am not putting any of my boats in the salty stuff. Terrierman Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I don't think I should go just yet. Sorry but just being up front and not going to drop out when push comes to shove.
Ham Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 No problem Rick. We'd love to have you there, but none of these events are mandatory attendence. Yet. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gotmuddy Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 I didn't figure you could Rick but maybe things will change. Ham no boats for rent, the place I go is as much of a secret as CC was ten years ago, or as much as SFS is now! I'm not concerned about the salt, it just requires more maintenance. Your boats aren't really setup for that kind of fishing. Griz was talking about putting the lower unit on his trout boat and taking that. It would be a good boat that would fish three people everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Ham Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Cody. It's not the boat I'm worried about, It's the trailer. I'll be glad to pay my share of gas etc, but it will be my yak if I put one of my boats in salt. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
BilletHead Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Oh Cody! That was such a great trip last year. I have not talked to Richard (Rich Mack) about going in February yet. Ham we took my boat last year (Rich Mack owns it now) and we did not have a galvanized trailer. We did take it to the car wash when we were done and gave it a good cleaning. It doesn't seem to have affected it that we can see. I too would like to Kayak fish the place but if you want to travel too far up or down river it cold be a pain. There is a lagoon of sorts across from where we stay that might work fine for the yack? I know we took the boat in there a ways and caught but almost made a mistake of going too far in there and with the tide coming in we about got stuck on a oyster bed! I was puckered up pretty bad until we got pushed off and the motor down. Ham Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I dunked mine in fresh water twice on the way home as well as washed and sprayed inside and out with a hose at the house and still had major issues. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Bird Watcher Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I'm going to the TX/LA Gulf somewhere in February, just haven't decided where yet. I might have my Dad with me, but I'd probably be in on this deal if it's not an exclusive trip.
gotmuddy Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 We don't do exclusive trips around here! I figure we could ferry the yaks to the lake we wanted to fish. The downstairs room sleeps 5-7 people I think everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
