LittleRedFisherman Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 How do you guys with a jet boat like a blazer mount your fishfinder transducers, or do you at all? I plan on mounting one on mine for walleye and crappie fishing mostly, I crappie fish in the delta, but next time I go fishing I might be on the shoals of the Current river. I think it was Griz that said he mounted on an old transom trolling moter, and raised it when he was going in knarly water. That's one idea. Do any of you mount them traditionally on your transom with no problems? Thought about my front trolling moter, but i'd really like to have it at the steering wheel. Thanks for any suggestions. Right now, i'm kinda leaning on the transom trolling idea? Bret. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
gotmuddy Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 You will need a movable mount. Maybe just mounted on a pivot would work. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Ham Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Griz was working on something. Check in with him. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
grizwilson Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Depends on what type. The straight down type transducers do fine. The trick is SI, been working with the "hummingbird guy" since last April on solutions the Engineers are intrigued. Not there yet, but closer. Could write several pages on experiments and research. SI has to be below the jet..... If you make the deal end of January at Lilley's I will bring what I got so far, and we can go through, no cameras, maybe you have a better idea. There are some complications. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein

DSI+Sonar...the transducer looks a lot like what I had on my old hummingbird, but it's rather longer, but same concept. I'd think as long as I stay out of inch and a half water, i'd be alright. The current river where I fish, I rarely run through much shallower than 6 inches, but if we have a drought again, that could change. The eleven Point is a different story, but run my trout boat there. thanks for the help. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
duckydoty Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 I have the humminbird 899 si transducer mounted on the port side of my transom on my tracker 185 with sport jet. I try to stay in atleast 8 inches of water. I do get just a little turbulance or interferance on the starboard side of my side imaging screen when running the big motor but none while using the trolling motor up front. It does not seem to effect the di at all. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
grizwilson Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Duckydoty, I am sure I will see you around Bridge Port soon, would like to get a look at your set up. One of the jet solutions has lead to humminbird to putting out a si transducer splitter, of course there goes another transducer, and the cable cost, Your inboard likely allows a bit of clearance at the transom that I do not have. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
duckydoty Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Im sure you will see me. I'd be happy to show you how it is set up and let you see it in operation. It is reaally not that bad and I'm getting it dialed in so I can see what I want to see. I was out there yesterday afternoon. That was not the best idea I've had in a while. 3 hours of cold and wet for one little white. I did get a couple more brush piles marked though. Al Agnew Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Just curious...why do you want it at the steering wheel? Can't imagine using it as a navigational aid on a jetboat. Mine is on the trolling motor, no problems to deal with.
duckydoty Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 It is a great navigational aid finding mdc brush piles by gps coordinates, following contours and finding channel swings. Some things I want to find going faster than the trolling motor will go. Its nice to jet up to a brush pile dead in my sights at 45 mph. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!!
