Donna G Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Tough day. Only 10 all day with 3 keeps and one keeper Walter. Launched at 8:30 and didn't get on the trailer until after 5. Will let Champ fill in the where and how. Typing with my pinkies because all my other raw digits have fresh SuperGlue on them. denjac Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Way to tough it out. I stayed by the fire today. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
motoman Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Definitely a cold one at there today. Good on yah for heading out! - And that super glue trick was the best solution I found to split fingers too.(I meant to post that in the thread with your finger pix) that Second Skin or Nu-Skin stuff isn't worth the hassle. - I used to work on/under cars/trucks in the winter with road salt/melting snow dripping from them, coupled with cold temps; my fingers would split something terrible. Super glue was my only savior! Champ188 1
Members Brandon Knight Posted January 2, 2015 Members Posted January 2, 2015 I was out today in the Cape Fair area. Saw 2 other boats all day. I only managed one fish but he was a keeper. Probably would have went close to 3 lbs. I really didn't get that cold but I was layered up pretty good. Worst part was running down the lake, but a pair of thick gloves and motocross goggles helped a lot! Caught the fish on a Jerkbait in some timber about 30 foot of water. I tried to learn to deep fish with the spoon but ended up loosing 2 of them so went back to the jerkbait and alabama rig haha. Champ188 1
Sac River Jim Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Wtg Donna you and Champ are winter warriors I installed my 898 birds on my boat this morning at my friends shop in Greenfield, The boat had gotten wet the other day before i got a cover for it and the lids were froze shut. I hope a storage unit comes available down here soon. I left it at his shop just to thaw it back out so i can fish this weekend. Happy New Year to both of you and hope to see you on the water very soon. My Ranger is coming together very nicely I should finish the little punch list tomorrow then i'm good to go. Champ188 1
Champ188 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 As for trip details, we launched at Sweetwater and fished down to Shell Knob. All fish came on a RC STX jerk bait. Water temps were 44-47 ... warmer down toward Shell Knob. All fish came from 45-degree banks with big chunk rock. No steeper, no flatter. It's also notable that for the first time this winter, the presence of wood played a definite role in getting bit. Tried to chase the wind but there just wasn't much to be had. kdc Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 thanks for all info. im going to try to get out this weekend
fishingaddiction Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Good info guys. The jerk bait has been good to you on your last few outings. Interesting observation about the presence of wood being a key to getting bit today. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
smbasser Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 fished a small tournmaent out of moonshine today, think 7 boats. We struggled to get bit, ended up with 4 keepers for about 10 lbs, all on the rig. I think the winners had 20+ lbs. Tried looking for deep fish but during a tournament is not the best time to learn a new technique. Caught some fish on a megabass but all short. All our keepers came around cow creek in the backs of windblow gravel pockets

In tournaments that allow A-rigs, someone is gonna catch a 20-pound sack just about every time. Again, appreciate your info.
