Quillback Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 You know Dave, you could pay for one of those kids college IF you sold all the pre-rap Warts. Not kidding a bit This winter is the craziest I have seen it for the pre-rap Warts. Seems that even, beat up, off colors, will still get at least $20.

Think the better colors are getting a little less easy to find, more noise about the bait generally- especially with the Elite here last year, Classic at Grand, and more guys painting. Actually some guys should stop painting. Not because they aren't good painters, but because they have no clue what colors a wart should wear. Why ruin a pre-rap wart with a bluegill or shad paint job? Save those for craw colors please.

Ham Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 And to be fair, I likely haven't had the same level of success you've had with your worst color. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

The craziest part of this pre rap deal is that now even the short, flat and mag warts are getting in on the action. You could get mag warts at a FRACTION of the regular size. Now they are also $20-30 a crack for decent colors when I was getting them a few years ago for like $3-5 a piece for craw colors. Wish now I would have loaded up on the mags. The short wart and flat warts have just come out of nowhere I feel like just this winter. Nobody wanted them or at least didn't pay much for them but I just saw 2 fire tiger pre rap flat warts go for $20 each. Last winter you would have been lucky to get $5 each. How much higher can these baits go? I know there was a major crash in the market for Bagley's and the price now is about half or less of what it was 5-10 years ago and wondering if that will eventually happen to the pre rap stuff?
Quillback Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I didn't know the Mag and Flats had jumped in price. You're right, the pre-rapala Mags were basically selling for retail or less.

I have a pretty solid Bagley's collection. There is still good interest and value on the truly collectible baits-specific colors and models. What tanked was the value of the "fishing" baits. Like with the warts, a lot of the old balsa b's were bought up by guys who intended to fish them, driving the prices up. What really killed that was the growth of quality square bills from major manufacturers. If a company can dial up that old wart magic we might see a drop. Hard to say. So far no company has done it yet. Maybe the Spro will be the tipping point. Think they are a little better accepted than Koppers generally. I have to think the increase in prices of the shorts, mags, etc., is due to collector interest more than angler interest. Those are going to be the baits Storm made less of, and perhaps end up being rarer finds eventually.
abkeenan Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Some of the Bagley's go for big money but they have to be the right colors, year, etc. Saw that the Nelly's Goldfish wedge bill went for about a grand last year. There are some others in that range also. But nothing I have seen has come close to the $4,000 Wiggle Wart V44 Blue Mackerel. To be honest I had never even knew that existed until I saw that listing. I went riffling through all my warts looking for a Blue Scale wart and had a sharpie in hand to make some squiggle lines and make a quick handful of benjamins...lol. Also wish I would have bought some of the Japanese "Popeye" Warts when prices on them was still fairly low. Now they are going for $100 each and up. I suck as a investor forecaster.
5bites Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 This is slightly off topic but when do you all fish the flat wart? I've only got a couple.
