Ham Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I'm not thinking that I'll be buying any of the TURD's because 8 baits vs 12 baits for the same money. I'm kinda of a stick in the mud I guess. I havent thrown the Fatty Z or the Hula Stiks either. My attempts with the Shadzzz have been fishless when the chopped Zinker was getting devoured. I think I'll just keep it simple and chunk the half zinker and grind out bites. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Off topic a tad but what are your guys thoughts on the TRD? I have used both the TRD and the zinker Z and I'm starting to think I like the Zinker Z better. I think it has a little more movement? Yes, I think it does also. Check out the "great big monstrous Ned Rig thread" for ideas as to why. Mostly due to the salt, despite the TRD being made softer. Also a little different in size from the cut bait.
Guest Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I prefer the tapered tail end vs the blunt end, but I dont think it really matters a whole lot. Its more cost effective to cut the zinkers in half. I will not be buying the turds for that reason.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 There's always one guy...and this time it is me. I consistently catch a better quality on the stubby end. It drove me nuts at first, because the actual tail end looks so much better. Don't think for a second it is a coincidence that the TRD is made with two stubby ends. bluebasser86 and crazy4fishin 2

Guest Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I prefer the tapered end because its a superior swimmer vs the blunt end. Many of the fish I catch are swimming it deep, but not in the sense like a swimbait. If you work it all the way to the boat, then pick it up & let it pendulum to the boat, that's generates a bite more often than not. It was a phantom bite. Late yesterday evening, I ran out of the tapers & used a square end, so I wrestled out as much salt as possible. Bingo, it was a swimmer. There's no wrong way to fish that bait. So many retrieve options.

I have seen fish caught on it rigged all sorts of odd ways, including threaded through the tail with the cut end at the back. Seemed to work too.
Ham Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I will not allow myself to get picky about which piece to use. I just grab one and rig it up. The pointy pieces look better to me, but I've never seen the fish care. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Gavin Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I cut them uneven and save the shorter ends to fish with the kids. They work great on a circle hook w/o any added weight most of the time. A couple wraps of lead wire occasionally. Over shallow weeds for bluegill.

Agreed, the head end is consistently my better producer even though the tail end looks better.
