Bass Enforcer Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I am on my third boat. The other two had a hydrofoil on them. My new boat does not. What are your guy's takes on them? Do you believe in them or not? Are they worth are they worth the money? They were already on my other boats when I bought them, so I never had the opportunity to try them without it. Lmk. Thanks
Bill Babler Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 What type of a boat do you have that would need one? I cannot believe that on any of the major B Boat lines you would have to have one if the package is set up properly. I have had over 20 boats and the thought has never entered my mind. Bass Enforcer Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 My boat doesn't suffer performance. I have 95 champion with a 200 hp merc. It runs great. They preach better fuel efficiency with them. I don't always believe what a company advertises. That's the reason for asking the guys with no altering motive to sell them, as well as the guys actually on the water.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Bill has it right. Should be able to adjust most boats with trim, correct prop, and/or a jackplate. Think foils are pretty much a quick fix for bad rigging, incorrect props, or underpowered hulls.

If it runs great I sure wouldn't fiddle with it.
Bill Babler Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I'm for sure with you Dave. I cannot for the life of me figure out how adding more exterior drag on the bottom of the motor would give you better fuel economy. You gonna have to splain that one to me Lucy B.E. I would leave that Champ alone. If it is setup correctly it don't need no Stinkin Hydrafoil Good Luck denjac 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bass Enforcer Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I'll take your word for it Bill. Thanks it's settled. I'll not be getting a hydrofoil. Lol
fishinwrench Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 If it runs great I sure wouldn't fiddle with it. Word! I hate them because it's just something else to take off and put back on during a water pump service. They "might" help porpoising on some lightweight boat setups but otherwise they just slow you down.
Champ188 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Waste of money that could be better spent on jerk baits, Warts, jigs, etc.

The only time not speaking for you cause I know you probably have seen just about everything. Lots of head scratchers no doubt. But the only time you seem to see these things is when someone is trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Mostly I have seen them here on a 18 to 20 ft aluminum boat that is powered by a 50 hp motor or some such crapola. Used to see them on some of the flat bottom pad fiberglass old stuff on Lake O when I lived up there, but now of days with the hulls we have and the proper set up, I just don't see how they do anything to a properly tuned up set up rig. Tks for jumpin in on this. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
