Building A Table Rock Tackle Bag From Scratch

Brett...what, no jika rig?

I know we can agree on one thing. Best thing that ever happened to Lawrence was when Quantrill burned it.

LOL. Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

The Jika Rig I lump in with my wobble head. Just didn't mention it and probably should have.

Man, that's some massive good stuff! Actually I think I just need to start fishing with you guys! Thank you all so much for your time and consideration. It's been a huge help. For anyone that still has ideas beyond what's been mentioned please let me know. I'm all ears! Thanks!!

OK, now I feel even dummer. What's a Jika rig?

No reason to feel dumb. It is a system for fishing weighted plastics that hangs less and gives the plastic more freedom to float. Look here:

Great input from everyone!!! I would say the boys covered almost all the bases for you. The only thing I would add is the splitshot rig with a green pumpkin fish doctor from Zoom. Lots of bass have been fooled by the little doctor..........almost as good as the ned rig. Someone did mention the redfin, but I strongly recommend you have a couple in your box. If you need help to modify them, check this forum, and you will find a host of info. Good luck.

Ya the split shot, mojo or small carolina rig that I used to throw on spinning gear I also didn't really mention as I have gotten away from it since Dave has introduced me to the Midwest Finesse Crack . But yes rigged up with a centipede or fish doctor is also very effective on TR.

Again guys, thanks a thousand times over! Incredibly good stuff here - way above and beyond what I expected. Hard to believe so many folks are willing to share so much personal information and in some cases, downright secret tricks with a stranger like myself. In some cases I'm even encouraged and impressed that I already employ some of the baits and tactics listed although most of them were probably stolen from here many years ago! All of this great input will go miles in making it easier to put Humpty Dumpty back together again and without spending needlessly out of confusion.

If I may be so bold as to ask a couple of other questions, I was wondering where most of you prefer to go shopping for deals and selection. I know Tackle Warehouse has been mentioned many times in the past but I've personally never shopped there. I typically go to Bass Pro and Cabela's due purely to convenience but I also realize that I'm limiting myself by doing so.

I also am going to need a new storage system and was curious what some of you preferred. My past bag was a Falcon that held seven or eight plastic boxes with an assortment of zippered and mesh pouches on the outside that's pretty common I would guess. One thing I hated about it though was it leaked like crazy and I had to either store it under deck or in a plastic bag whenever it rained. Pain in the butt to have to empty all that crap out in the room to dry at night and resulted in lots of rusted hooks to boot.

Thanks again for all of the time and effort in helping me out here. Can't wait to get started now that I have plan and especially since it wasn't crafted by a guy named Custer! I'll let you all know how things are progressing and hopefully will have an opportunity to thank some of you in person sometime in the future.

I have more tackle than I could use in a lifetime. I probably only use about 20% of it. That being said if I was locked into having a dozen rods on the deck for the rest of my life on Table Rock they would consist of the follow baits:

1. Jig of your choice in various weights (I am partial to NuTechs now but whatever floats your boat)

2. Mid Crank Depth - Wiggle Warts and I also like old Poe's Cedars

3. Deep Cranks - DD22's, SK 6XD Rapala DT series, etc

4. Wobble Head with soft plastic of your choice (I like Missle Bait D-Bombs, Zoom Brushhogs, Big 10-12" worms)

5. Various Size Jigheads (1/8-1/2oz) for attaching/swimming grubs (Kalins 5" grub) or soft swim baits (3-6")

6. Spinnerbaits/Squarebills (same rod for me) - I like War Eagles and Booyah spinners and I like Strike King KVD squarebills

7. Topwater - walk the dogs, poppers and wakers - I like Spooks, Spit'n Images, Chug Bugs and Jackall Mikey's

8. A-Rig/Heavy Hard Swimbaits - Lures around 2oz or heavier (Get my bladed A-Rigs cheap off Ebay and rig them with Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad 3" attached) - SPRO BBZ's and R2S S-Waver

9. Jerk bait - I am partial to SPRO McSticks

10. Spoon - Both jigging style and flutter style in various sizes, weights and shapes (white or chrome are the colors I use)

11. Drop Shot or Finesse baits - I like Robo Worms from DS'ing and like Buckeye Spot Removers for Shakey Heads, Ned Rigs here also

12 - Specialty Rod/Bait that you have confidence in or maybe want to experiment with (this is my large hard swim baits rod personally)

I realize that encompasses a lot but that is my list or baits I would want to have throughout the 4 seasons on the rock.

Abkeenan, You nailed it. Great list. Add a few redfins to #7 and Yamamoto 5" grubs to #5 and thats my gear. Well, I bailed on the A-rig #8, to much work. But I have at least twice as much tackle all neatly piled in tubs that I rarely use.

Besides Abkeenan's list this is a great thread for newbies to the Rock. I occasionally go fish with folks that just don't understand why their favorite old crankbait rigged on their favorite heavy action 5'6" rod won't catch bass on the Rock like it did on _________(whatever pond name here). Of course they also look at me like a nut when I stop the boat at what feels like the middle of the lake and say "we're here".

I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
