Tough day, caught 1/2 dozen bass, three of them may have been keeper sized, but barely. Ned caught 5, and one on a grub. Had a spell in the afternoon where I hooked and lost 6 straight fish. Fish were in 10-30 FOW, rocky points with timber. Breezy, sunny, and warm - I expected better results.

Water temp 41-42

Thanks, QB. So do you think the water temp is coming up a bit?

I think they have, Friday morning it was 39 where we started, today that same place was 41. Hard to say for sure, but I think maybe a degree higher than Friday.

quill, that is not all that bad considering water temps and time of year. with the water being cold, fish do not feed everyday, and can be very difficult to entice into biting many times. it is also a hunting process to figure out if the bite is suspended or on the bottom.

I am with Bo, that is not a bad winter day. What happened on the ones you lost? Did you have a hook on your Ned?

Wonder if that is the old "just reel into them" problem. I don't care if it is six pound line and a little hook, I bust them like Harry n Charlie with a scuppernong jelly worm. Figured that out about the second year I fished it.

"just reel into them" is only to be used with braid/leader. It will cost you fish with straight mono or fluorocarbon.

What works for some, may not work for others.

I don't know, my hook setting technique I use with the Ned has been pretty effective until today, let them load up and then give it a pull, not a cross their eye type set. Seems like if I do the all-out hook set, it pulls the Ned out.

Very simple!, it's that 90 degree hook, it will back rotate 90degrees before forward penetration.
