I was at the Spring Classic on Sat.up in the Springfield store and man, was it dead! Maybe the weather had alot to do with it. Kevin Van Dam was there walking around and not alot of people chasing him down. Not many seminars at all!

I can understand why. I got their flyer 3 times. There was nothing in there that I'd walk across the street to buy let alone drive to Springfield. A lot of their "special deals" are just regular prices.

I went to the Bass Pro in St. Charles on Sunday to pick up the PQ reel that was on sale. I spent a lot of time visited with a pro that was hawking wiggle warts. The fellow had a lot of experience fishing Mark Twain, LOZ and Bull Shoals. Right up my alley except that I fish Norfork instead of Bull Shoals. He was informative and talked techniques at all the lakes, time of year, bait selection, etc. A great guy and a lot of fun visiting. I agree it was not very busy but I liked the event.

They are running a "Classic Countdown" show at 1030 PM on the Outdoor channel, I recorded it, but it's running every night this week at 1030. I believe it is live and filmed in Springfield. Last night they had Zona, KVD, and some walleye guy. Kind of a disappointing show. Walleye guy was hawking an ice fishing jig that he was casting out and bouncing back to the boat in open water and said it is flat out whacking the walleye - only thing that was funny is that he forgot to name the brand of the jig. I'd recognize it if I looked in the catalog for it I guess. It's not a Rapala.

As beautiful as the weekend was I would bet most people were out fishing combined with internet sales less people in the store. Also with other retailers so available and their prices equal to or better and being internet I often wonder how much longer stores like BP and Cabelas have that charge what seems like higher prices in the store and when you walk in and see all the decoration you get the feeling your paying for that more than the bait. The final thought is I see and hear people all over the internet and even on TV saying by local from local stores and have to think that as well plays in to it.

The last one is especially true for my family, we have really started staying clear of the Wal's of the world and shopping and eating at more locally owned and family owned business's I will say this Harps meats blow walmarts away and their produce is much better as well imo. Maybe we are seeing the death of the Big Store and the rebirth of the Mom and Pop and that's not bad in my book.

Title of this topic had me anxious for a second!

Thought maybe one of my Big League BASS trading cards just became more valuable? :have-a-nice-day:

It does have the old "eats, shoots, and leaves" thing going on.
