ness Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 Annual get-together with friends tonight. Baby brother did a pork rib roast with a port and mushroom sauce. Friend did homemade gnocchi with mushroom and spinach. I did bourbon and maple glazed carrots. Didn’t get photos of appetizers and dessert but it was cheese crisps before and chocolate poke cake after. My brother cut those huge chops. I couldn’t finish mine. So, I schlepped a box of Manischewitz matzo ball & shoop mix home to try. I was sure an ancient ancestor was looking down from above crying, ‘Oy Vey, he’s meshuggenah!’, but I soldiered on. I followed the directions on the box to the letter, but found it nish keet. I knew I wanted something better to nosh on. budman Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Made a Guinness Stew out of some venison roast. Should have taken a picture before the group started eating because is all gone. I cut the roast up in one inch cubes and seasoned and floured them and browned them in a large pan. I added one chopped onion, 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms, chopped celery, 3 bay leaves, a couple sprigs of rosemary, couple table spoons of tomato paste, a table spoon of brown sugar, table spoon of worcestershire sauce, 32 ounces of beef stock and 12 ounces of Guinness Extra Stout and cooked until the meat was tinder. Then I added chunks of potatoes, carrots, green beans and coarse chopped cabbage and cooked until the potatoes are done. I was great. I’ve never done it with venison, but Guinness beef stew is a favorite around here. John

I will try to add a picture next time Add a few pickled walnuts (quartered) and enjoy the contrast with the Guinness flavors.

Gavin Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 You all have mad cooking skills! Do you take requests? Neighbors are coming over for diner Monday night and their little one (Cindy Lou Who) asked if I was making Lasagna for Xmas again. There will be some!
