'Mom's' beef stew. She got the recipe out of one of those community cook books in the 1960's. It can be found in various versions on the 'net under the name 'Company Beef Stew'. Everything from a can or box except the carrots and beef. Still good!

File%20Oct%2023%2C%201%2021%2006%20PM.jp

Here's our version:

1-2 lbs beef in one-inch cubes
3-4 large carrots, sliced
1 can tomatoes and juice
1 can LeSueur brand peas
2 cans whole potatoes
1 can green beans
1 can consomme
3/4 cup red wine
2 teaspoon tapioca
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ cup bread crumbs
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon salt
Pepper

Crock Pot on low for 10-12 hours.

I like the everything from a can concept shown above. My mother was a devotee of that method and the best food we had while growing up came from that concept. In the near future I will share one of my favorites in that group, the Someone Is Dead casserole.

The wife and I have pizza dough rising tonight as I type. I made a meatless red sauce last night for pasta an set aside some for tonight's pizza. The other toppings tonight will be cheese, julienne sliced ham, sauteed mushrooms, and marinated artichoke slices. Pizza night means much around here.

Just an encouragement. Ham, mushroom, and artichoke pizza.

Took 2nd Place! Was a horse race. 14 votes for Angie's French Onion, 13 for my entry. No more than 3 votes for any other entry. Quick & easy taco soup...One can each pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans, corn, beef broth, rotel diced tomatoes with green chiles, 2 cans diced tomatoes, 1 pack hidden valley ranch salad dressing mix, 1 pack taco seasoning. 2 lbs of chuck roast diced and browned with the taco season. Deglaze pan with the beef broth. Cook till meat and beans are tender. Crunch up a tortilla chip, add soup, and some queso fresco, cheddar, cilantro, sour cream.....good stuff. Angie said she used Tyler Floence's Ultimate French Onion recipe.

Looks like a great soup recipe Gavin. Last night I roasted a small beast and some fingerling potatoes I bought at the Fayetteville farmers market. Today I am canning dilly beans with the incredible jade beans I found there.

The beautiful wife has made bread and I am headed toward a chowder. This link tells it all.

Interesting sounding recipe, Gavin. Wouldn't have thought ranch dressing mix.

I did a nice cod filet with a lemon caper sauce. Started on the stove, finished in the oven then made the sauce. Sauteed Brussels sprouts and green beans.
