Did somebody say cioppino?!!   The best is Mama's Fish House on Maui

I've experimented with it some and have made a couple pretty good ones. Not really too hard, just a spicy, savory tomato/wine broth and the seafood of your choice. I'm overdue for some of that.

The chowder itch wasn't quite scratched. So I made my own. Thinner than the thick, thick chowders in Boston, and with more herbs -- thyme and parsley -- and onion and celery. Canned, minced clams, bottle of clam juice, a little roux and some half and half. A splash of sherry at the end.

Must be tough on a brother to have to cook for himself again:)

Lol. It's back to reality for a while.

My wife invented a new dish tonight.  Creamy biscuit/gravy soup.  OK, reality it was a batch of sausage gravy on which her racticed eye failed her and it wouldn't thicken.  No problem, put it in soup bowls and use the biscuits like crackers.  Seemed good although honestly I couldn't tell, allergies, bronchitis, Zika something has killed all sense of taste and smell for the last week.

Travelling far from home for a while. Happily, the in laws allowed me to use their kitchen tonight. I seared some chicken breasts I had seasoned and marinated. I built a summer vegetable tian of potato, tomato, zucchini, and eggplant. I put together a farmers market salad from a brief stop today. Life is good. If we were in the Ozarks, it would be great.

Where are you Randy if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry to be so long answering. I am trapped in Winter Harbor, Maine. I am here with Nancy, my wife, her 94 year old mother, Nancy's brother and his wife, their daughter and her husband, and their son. We arrived Friday, the first guests of the season at a rental on the ocean. The house was advertised as five bedrooms and as having wi-fi.

The house does have five bedrooms, but one is blocked off for storage and has no bed. We finally had hot water late yesterday afternoon. The rental agent brought mobile space heaters as well. My daughter and her husband, after we called to give them a report, have opted not to join us here for a visit. I do not blame them.

I am writing this in the parking lot of the closed Winter Harbor, Maine public library. The library opens for parts of three days per week, but if you park close to the building, the free wi-fi is 24/7. We have been told someone will come Monday to repair the non-functioning wi-fi at the rental. Because of the remote location at the rental, I have only an iffy 1 bar on my cell phone. I can't use it as a hotspot or respond to posts on the board. However if I wait long enough I can read the posts made by you folks.

On the good side, Nancy's mother has enjoyed having her family with her on vacation.

Mantra: This too will pass.
