MOPanfisher Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 RPS, I like spicy and wife loves curry, I however simply don't like the taste, don't know why, but if you have the recipe I would try it for her.

It is nice where I live to have some control in what I put into my big mouth. I look outside and see groceries everywhere. I will pass on the armadillos and opossums but pass the muskrat. Yes I have eaten them and they are pretty tasty. No access to them now unless I want to trap again. I realize I cannot live totally off the land. Like my AC and heat . Again just fortunate to be where I am at. Nice boat too RPS. Did you score on the walleye in that new rig? Need to meet you someday and give you a jar of goose fat for your cooking, BilletHead My father was raised much the way you describe, but during the Depression and without a father as his had died. He wanted to never live like that again so the only hunting he did or taught me was pleasure fishing and limited quail hunting. And, as I have mentioned before, he was not handy. As a result, to my wife's regret, I am not handy. Nor do I hunt. That does not mean I do not respect those who do and I enjoy game dishes. I know goose fat. I love it. Roasted potatoes in goose fat are impossible to describe or beat. And yes, the walleye was the first legal one in the new boat. Caught it Sunday. BilletHead 1

Johnsfolly Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Billethead - Here's the scoop on borage from Wikipedia Borage (/ˈbʌrᵻdʒ/,[1]Borago officinalis), also known as a starflower, is an annual herb in the flowering plant family Boraginaceae. It is native to the Mediterranean region and has naturalized in many other locales.[2] It grows satisfactorily in gardens in the UK climate, remaining in the garden from year to year by self-seeding. The leaves are edible and the plant is grown in gardens for that purpose in some parts of Europe. The plant is also commercially cultivated for borage seed oil extracted from its seeds Traditionally borage was cultivated for culinary and medicinal uses, although today commercial cultivation is mainly as an oilseed. Borage is used as either a fresh vegetable or a dried herb. As a fresh vegetable, borage, with a cucumber-like taste, is often used in salads or as a garnish.[4] The flower has a sweet honey-like taste and is often used to decorate desserts and cocktails.[4] Vegetable use of borage is common in Germany, in the Spanish regions of Aragón and Navarra, in the Greek island of Crete and in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Although often used in soups, one of the better known German borage recipes is the Green Sauce (Grüne Soße) made in Frankfurt. In Italian Liguria, borage is commonly used as a filling of the traditional pasta ravioli and pansoti. It is used to flavour pickled gherkins in Poland.[citation needed] Borage is traditionally used as a garnish in the Pimms Cup cocktail,[4] but is nowadays often replaced by a long sliver of cucumber peel or by mint. It is also one of the key "Botanical" flavourings in Gilpin's Westmorland Extra Dry Gin. As I mentioned the hairs don't have a great mouth feel, but do seem to be less noticeable or absent once you cook the leaves. BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Neat info Johnsfolly. Something different I like that, Today I just scavenged we had no meat. No I am not going to be a vegetarian blasphemy I say! Just no meat and I lived through it. Homemade granola cereal for breakfast, pistachios for lunch and caprese salad, cucumbers and onions and fresh corn on the cob for dinner. One soda today and just plain old water. Did not even partake of my daily single that means one beer. Oh I feel so healthy :). Johnsfolly Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The Horrors!! We had a Thai trout dish. We made a mixture of cooked/softened shallots, garlic, and jalapeno peppers that we made into somewhat of a paste then mixed with lime juice, fish sauce, minced lemongrass and kafir lime leaves. Spread that all over the fish and broiled them until done. Served with rice. Still feel a little bit healthy. BilletHead 1
rps Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I am honoring BH's decision to go protein free. Tonight we are having a gnocchi with Nancy's home made pesto sauce and a chopped salad. Life does not get much better than this, even in the Ozarks. BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Uh O, Hope I have not started anything too healthy. Doesn't hurt I suppose. Tho1mas Ha good one. Yes the BilletHead tries to have a daily barley pop. Just one I have been told it is good for me by a medical professional . To everyone's chagrin I am still alive and not posting from my casket or ash pile yet .
