Last night I put some great northern beans to soak. This morning I put them in the slow cooker with a can of tomatoes, a chopped leek, 10 cloves of crushed garlic, and a little carrot. I then took the skin off and rough chopped about  a pound of left over Nueskes ham I thawed overnight. I added spices and salt and a dash of Sriracha. I covered the entire mix with a combination of chicken broth and tomato juice.

Who says you only fix beans when it's cold outside?

Suppers at my house have mostly devolved into, sliced tomatoes, more sliced tomatoes, sliced cukes, and "what do you want to toss on the grill", might not be very glamorous but dang tasty, sure am getting tired of eating so many vine ripened tomatoes Ness.

That's some crazy stuff right there! Does it have a name, or was it just something you made up? Sounds like it would work.

Sometimes I cook by smacking my lips and mentally tasting combinations. I started with beans and ham. Then I went tomatoes. From there it was chaos theory in action. At this point I can report, the end result is tasty. Not your standard ham and beans but very tasty.

I have a bad habit of using recipes as nothing more than a general guide, then begin adding stuff I like or that sounds good.  Occasionally I go too far, but usually it ends up good.  Never quite repeatable since I never write it down.

Canning spicy dilly beans today.

BTW, a good dilly bean beats any onion or olive in a martini.
