Members JRD Posted February 17, 2015 Members Posted February 17, 2015 These guys will catch them. I like Evers to win.
Fish24/7 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 David Walker saved a boater's life in practice this week. He gets my vote based on sportsmanship. In 2008, Alton Jones won it deep with a football jig, Cliff Pace was 2nd. I just read the story about David saving the guy's life. If this ever happens to any of "us" all you need to do is have the person in the water put their foot on the cavitation plate , let them hold on to the boat/motor, somewhere, and then use the power trim to raise them up higher so they can get in the boat easier, remember that !! Champ188 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I don't know if Evers has enough gas left in his tank. I keep hearing he's talking about hanging it up and chasing cows around his ranch in Oklahoma. That was backed up by a co-angler I had recently who is related to Terry Butcher, a brother-in-law to Evers and former Elite Series pro.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Good jerkbait Fisherman should be front runners. McClelland, Cherry, Ike and Ashley for his local knowledge.
Alex Heitman Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I think it will be won on a Jerkbait and whoever decides to stick with it and only get 5-6 bites a day Will probably catch the better fish. Can't rule out good jig fisherman like Pace and Davis. It is going to be brutal out there and whoever can stay in the game mentally will have the best chance.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 If it is that cold you would have to think guys who can catch spots should have a good shot. Can't imagine true southern largemouth wanting to play with those conditions. Seems like on those lakes down there somebody figures out how to catch them on a crankbait when it is cold. Maybe Ott DeFoe or Swindle. Those TN/AL/Carolina shad rap boys.
abkeenan Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I did fantasy fishing for the first time ever this year and it starts with the Classic. Kinda fun and you can win some sweet prizes (Tackle Warehouse has MASSIVE payout of tackle at years end). I also think Cliff Pace has a real good chance to win as it sets up just like on Grand when he won. Seems like it's going to be a jerkbait and jig combo that wins it just like on Grand so that bodes well for Pace and McClelland. Casey Ashley is one of the huge favorites because it's his home lake but I read somewhere the no local has ever won the Classic on their home lake so I didn't pick him as one of my 5 anglers on my fantasy fishing team. Jacob Wheeler is also a wild card as that kid can FLAT OUT FISH and he seems to be very versatile.
Bill Babler Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 For some reason, I'm not thinking this will be a jerk bait derby. I'm thinking it will be that tried and true FB jig or a crank bait bite on a particular location or maybe several with a concentration of a lot of fish. Although those K's just love the jerker, one of these guys will find some LM in a ditch that want that slow moving jig wound by them. Would not be afraid to put the Varmint to the test there either, as we have seen, they like that deal pretty well when the water is cold. I'm not thinking Ever's either. I'm going to be surprised if he makes the last day. Good Gosh, with these guys you just never know. I do absolutely believe that its going to be a big school or two that wins it and that's why I'm not thinking a jerk bait bite. Something in play here that really just started a year or so ago, is keeping the spectators off your fish after you leave. Hopefully it will be cold enough that if one of them finds a nice pod or two that the follow boats don't just wack them to pieces after the pro leaves for the day. Pretty crappy deal, but that seems like the way it is starting to play out, its all about me. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

A lot like the tmt Stacey King fished with it at Lanier a few years ago. Not sure who in the field would do it though.
Bill Babler Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I know Mike M. knows about it big time, "BUT" this is the Classic, and its pretty hard to not fish your strength and what you know will work. In this deal, there is not a ton of time for experiment. Are they missing practice days because of the weather, or they on the water today trying to get it figured out? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
