Champ188 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 What does pre-Rap mean? I must have dozed off.
ozarksfishin Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Pre rap is before Rapala bought Storm lures and changed the mold for wiggle warts, James. There was a "flaw" in the old mold that made them hunt erratically when they came off a rock. That's why you sweep the rod tip during the retrieve, to load the wart so it hunts erratically OAF Contributor Phillip Stone http://ozarksfishin.com
SplitG2 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Ok Dave.... You mention colored or stained water is best for warts. What about clear water. No wart bite?...or different colored wart?
Alex Heitman Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 Ozarksfishin james Definetly knows about pre rapala warts lol he was just getting us going since its a typical ? On the board. Thanks for the explanation though haha Daryk Campbell Sr 1
*T* Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Tell me about old suspend warts. Along with some originals I have 5 or 6 that say "Suspend Wart". Always did well with these. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
dtrs5kprs Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Ok Dave.... You mention colored or stained water is best for warts. What about clear water. No wart bite?...or different colored wart? Just need more wind and weather, more natural wart. Phantoms, Nat brown and Nat green, V37. When I mostly fished the Kings and James I threw warts throughout Feb, Mar, early April. Since learning to fish clear water, I rarely pick one up. Just so many other things that work without the effort or expense.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I've got a bunch of clear billed pre raps that I need to paint. What colors do yall suggest for the clear baits? Phantom brown craw is the obvious choice but I would rather not paint all 10 of them in the same color. Paint some easy ones, little green worm colors. Watermelon (zoom) with black and red flake, GP with orange and black flake, etc. Easy, and they work, even if they don't get a bunch of smileys in a gallery somewhere.
gabe Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I fished a Central Pro-Am years ago on Bull Shoals and drew Robbie Dodson. I believe it was early December if I remember correctly and we had good weather. We were fishing the Peel area chasing wind in creek pockets. Robbie absoulutely tore them up on a V38 and was fishing the crankbait very fast banging the bait off the bottom on chunk rock. He was also throwing a double willow leaf spinnerbait that had a brown and gold looking skirt with a treble trailer hook. Skirt colors were similar to the color of the v38. A god awful looking spinnerbait but he was catching the fire out of them on it as well. Again, reeling the bait very fast drawing reaction strikes. I didn't even have that color wiggle wart but learned a lesson on the V38 and have been fishing them ever since. I might see if Tim Hughes can paint a Rock Crawler to look like a V38.

Guest Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 What about the V209 phantom? Red/orange with an olive back & black splatter. I will paint a bunch of the V38 over those chrome warts & other painted bill models.
