Flysmallie Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 So I promised Amery I would do a SBS of the smallie pig. It took me a while but here it is. Pretty simple fly that has really shown great potential. I'm using a 2/0 jig hook. Tie in some dumbbell eyes. I vary the size to keep them as light as possible but still be able to get it down quickly. Select a hackle. Tie the hackle in flat wing style with the shiny side down. Create a dubbing loop and build up the base behind the eyes. Spin up some dubbing. Wrap it. Tie in the legs. Fold them back. Create another dubbing loop. Wrap it up behind the eyes to help hold those legs back. Whip finish in front of the eyes. Trim the legs. Go fish. laker67, BilletHead and Buzz 3

moguy1973 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 You know what might be even better on that? Another hackle on the back, one on each side of the hook to mimic craw claws....Looks killer as it is though... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Flysmallie Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Is that like scud dub? That's some that I made up but I like it pretty hairy.

I'm not trying to mimic a craw dad so I like that simple tail. I've also tried a strip of rabbit and squirrel but it really weighs it down when wet.
Troutnut69 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Nice looking fly. I tie one very similar except I use two clumps of marabou for a tail (ala claws) and then palmer some schlappen up to the rubber legs and around in front of them. Kind of a creature bait that you can toss with a flyrod...
