So I promised Amery I would do a SBS of the smallie pig. It took me a while but here it is. Pretty simple fly that has really shown great potential.

I'm using a 2/0 jig hook.

1-M.jpg

Tie in some dumbbell eyes. I vary the size to keep them as light as possible but still be able to get it down quickly.

2-M.jpg

Select a hackle.

3-M.jpg

Tie the hackle in flat wing style with the shiny side down. Create a dubbing loop and build up the base behind the eyes.

4-M.jpg

Spin up some dubbing.

5-M.jpg

Wrap it.

6-M.jpg

Tie in the legs.

7-M.jpg

Fold them back.

8-M.jpg

Create another dubbing loop.

9-M.jpg

Wrap it up behind the eyes to help hold those legs back. Whip finish in front of the eyes. Trim the legs.

10-M.jpg

Go fish.

You know what might be even better on that? Another hackle on the back, one on each side of the hook to mimic craw claws....Looks killer as it is though...

Yeah you can do a lot of different things for the tail. I'm not trying to mimic a craw dad so I like that simple tail. I've also tried a strip of rabbit and squirrel but it really weighs it down when wet.

Nice looking fly. I tie one very similar except I use two clumps of marabou for a tail (ala claws) and then palmer some schlappen up to the rubber legs and around in front of them. Kind of a creature bait that you can toss with a flyrod...
