I wouldn't take up fly fishing just to catch some trout, I'd do it because it's a blast and you have a lot of options, really close, to just have a good time. It's not the almighty trout but a quick hour spent plucking gills off with a small popper or ant does wonderful things to your soul. And a kid has an awesome time doing the same.
