96 CHAMP Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was reading a article about Mark Menendez yesterday, does that name ring a bell to any of you??
willyfish Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Went thru cancer and survived which is more important. I saw that guy go under a shallow bridge and win.
Guest Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I grew up fishing all those reservoirs in central & norther Mississippi. Fields of dead lily pads stems with scattered stumps. Rattle traps, chatter baits, spinnerbaits, square bills, Flippin jigs rule the day. Mike could be doing any number of things. My choice is a 1/2oz chrome cotton Cordell super spot in 18"-24" of water. It's basically a massive farm pond.
Quillback Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was reading a article about Mark Menendez yesterday, does that name ring a bell to any of you?? Yes it does, saw a fishing show featuring him, one of those Basspro shows I think. He was fishing Kentucky lake late winter and catching them on cranks. He did a good job on that show.
Members Jozark Posted March 13, 2015 Members Posted March 13, 2015 I met Mike McClelland two years ago at a BASS University seminar, and he could not have been nicer. I actually had dinner with him, and he is a wealth of knowledge. I think he lives in Arkansas, but he had family up around Table Rock. He is a local boy that I love rooting for, and he might be the most underrated touring pro. Champ188 I believe knows Mike. I hope he wins this event and if the Classic is at Grand next year watch out. Champ188 1
abkeenan Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Went thru cancer and survived which is more important. I saw that guy go under a shallow bridge and win. He also thought his boat had 4 wheel drive and went Evel Knievel trying to ramp his boat from the spillway sand bar to the Chateau on the Lake Beach at a BASS event about 4 years ago. This is the only pic I could find of the incident. Back when it happened there were a lot more. His boat was a good 10-15 yards up on that bar from what I recollect. Champ188 1

What you see is what you get. Doesn't ham it up to get more camera time. Lets his fishing do the talking. And yes, one can bet that when the Classic comes back to Grand next March, Mike will be a strong factor. I think he wanted the one in 2014 to the point that it affected his fishing, especially mentally. Next time he will have already felt the pressure of being the local favorite and should be able to deal with it better. Same for Jason Christie. In fact, could be a real shootout between those two. Bill Babler, Bill Beck, Hughesy and others on here also know Mike well and can tell you their opinions of him. Bet they are very close to mine. Good luck today and tomorrow, MIkey!
Guest Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 No. 1 — Ross Barnett Reservoir at Ridgeland, Miss., March 12-14 In 1978, Bobby Murray won his second Classic title on Ross Barnett, which already was a storied tournament lake for B.A.S.S. pros by that time. More recently, Randall Tharp qualified for the 2014 Classic with a win there in 2013. Ross Barnett, 33,000 acres in size, ranks among the top 100 lakes in the country. No. 2 — Ft. Gibson Lake at Wagoner, Okla., Sept. 10-12 Oklahoma pro Jason Christie won his second Open of the 2012 season on Ft. Gibson. He qualified for the Classic and the Elite Series that same year through the Northern Opens. If Tommy Biffle is in the field, he’s one to watch; Biffle won an Elite event there in 2010 and has fished the lake for 40 years. The 19,900-acre Ft. Gibson is No. 65 on the Best 100 Lakes list. No. 3 — Table Rock Lake at Branson, Mo., Oct. 1-3 Table Rock featured two recent Opens in 2011 and 2012, won by Elite Series anglers Kevin Short and Casey Scanlon. Table Rock Lake cover 43,000 acres and is No. 68 on Bassmaster Magazine’s 100 Best Bass Lakes of 2014. If Mike wins the first one, hes got a good chance at winning the other 2, or at least making a top 10. Might be AOY in the central opens

When he got some local tips to stay on top of gravel points and banks Mark must have took it to the extreme and a little to literal. Champ188 1
