5bites Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Ah I see. So you reduced it really thin then, like watery thin? What did you reduce with?
Guest Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 its was 50/50 ratio of paint to reducer, then 10% transparent base Its quite the witch's brew. W500-02 High Performance Reducer 4012
5bites Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Great. Thank you for sharing. If you experiment with water please keep me posted.
Kee sims Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 This may be a silly question but I've always just fished cranks with the hooks and split rings they came with. How do you guys decide what size of hooks/ split rings to use when buying blanks that come bare?
Guest Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Lets say, its a wiggle wart blank. I fish #6 hooks on those with #1 or #2 size snaps on the bill. I know others use a #4 or #5 on the belly hook. I don't upsize them instead I keep my hooks fresh throughout the day.
Guest Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Plasti Dip rubber coating is a clearcoat that is so thin that 3D eyes don't even appear like they've been clearcoated. It leaves a tough as nails yet rubber feel to the bait. The reason I wanted to try it was its matte finish. Quick drying time, no drying wheel, multiple thin coats I wanted the matte colored crawdad & firetiger.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Neat. Used to paint jigs in black plasti-dip for flipping. Was cheap, easy, and held up. Had myself convinced the feel was a plus.
Guest Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I double coated a wart today, looks crazy good. If this holds up in the rocks & doesn't peel off from hook rash, it could be a homerun. Just spray it on, wait 30 minutes & coat it again. If this doesn't work, then I'm going the Solarez route.
Kee sims Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 I live in Nixa. And have look everywhere for devcon 2 ton epoxy. Anyone know who has the 30min in stock? Lowes had 5 min. I've checked walmarts, Nixa hardware, lowes, orschelins, Home Depot, oreilys. I'd like find it local but I guess eBay may have do. I haven't yet got to start tinkering with painting yet we bought a new house and it's been a bit chaotic. Hopefully it'll settle down and I'll be able get some pics of my first baits and as I go.
