Blue Spring Creek

I browse this site a lot for tips but this is my first post.

Went out to Blue Spring Creek this past week. I parked at the pull off of Highway N and fished downstream to just below where Highway N and Blue Springs Road cross. Not much luck. I drifted small nymphs, san juan worms, and wolly buggers under an indicator mostly in the faster moving water. The holes are tough to fish because they're usually surrounded by brush and downed trees. I just started fishing this creek last summer and this is probably my 5th or 6th time out there. The water is much deeper and cloudier than it was this past summer. Seems like that would make fishing much easier. I caught a nice 14" rainbow last summer in the big hole that's just below where the spring comes out from camp Mihaska. Other than that just a few small 4"-6' fish in the faster moving water. Last summer I went out with a guide and saw quite a few fish in holes above the Highway N pull off but they're tough to sneak up on and reach and they're pretty good at hiding beneath the undercut banks and downed brush. Has anyone been out there yet this year? Any tips? I'll definitely be going out there quite a bit this year since it's in such close proximity to STL

I have only fished this creek once. I caught a 14" rainbow on a white 1/32 oz marabou jig. So I can't say what will work consistently in that creek.

I recognize that rod and hat combo and the cheap beer photos. 2sheds - are you going to fish the MO wild trout streams again this year?

Those fish are easy if you don't spook them. If you see them you are done. Plan your approach, sneak up, and make your first cast count. Stay out of the water as much as possible, and don't flog spooked fish. Move after 3-4 casts with no fish.

Caught a 12-14" in the riffle between two gravel bars on the way back from Westover Farms. Upstream is usually better.

Brandon & Tony - 12 to14" are outstanding fish for this creek. Keep having fun.

... and if you see any of those funny beer cans, take a photo and then pack them out. That's my policy anyway. But first I often to check to ensure they are completely empty.

Thanks all for the replies. I went out again a couple of weeks ago. Fished further upstream but only caught one 6 incher in the riffles. I'm kind of tired of getting skunked ? so I may head out to Maramec Springs this weekend.

Eh, one 6 inch rainbow on a creek like that beats the heck out of the best day at Maramec Spring.

You're doing fine. It's just a tough creek. Try some of the other wild trout streams. They are all easier than BSC.
