Old plug Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have caught bass and crappie on a bare hook about 1/2 dozen times time while searching for hidden brush piles back in the day before fish flashers. Fish might bite on anything. Ned is nothing more than a variation off a jig. The jig is the most productive lure ever made. Trouble with a lot of people they keep searching for some miracle lure and there is no such thing. Find just a small selection and learn to use them. The thing that I did not like about some of the ned heads they claimed they had a something that was a answer to all your dreams. Sound a whole lot like high pressure sales to me. I personally do not like the Z man plastic I have lost a few fish with it on some of those baits because the hook did not come thru the soft plastic. A few time is a few times to many for me to tolerate. And as far as the wiggle goes. If thats what you want you should try tying a strip of rabbit fur on the shank of a ned head jig. It kid a lot tuffer than the plastic and every bit as fluid.
Flysmallie Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 If you post that you dont like it I assume you suck at life or you are lying. Just saying, if I meet you on the river, and you are actually catching a lot of fish, I will guarantee that uou have a soft plastic on a jig head (ned). WOW! Panties are wadded up tight today. Come meet me on the river any day you want and I will be catching plenty of fish and there will not be any ned rig stuff any where near me. There are other ways to catch fish that work just as well in a river. I'm not saying the ned rig doesn't work but it's a boring way to fish. I'm out there to have a good time and enjoy fishing the way I want to fish. Chief Grey Bear 1
Guest Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 One thing is for sure, the Ned creates just as much controversary as the Alabama Rig, but for totally different reasons. Boring it may be, but catching fish is not.
Chief Grey Bear Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 There is no controversy. People just get sick of hearing about it every day. Flysmallie Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Boring it may be, but catching fish is not. I agree that there is nothing boring about catching fish. But I don't have to use a ned to catch them. And when I have it has not icreased my catch rate. You guys that like that type of fishing probably wouldn't like my style of fishing and that's fine. I'm not trying to shove it down anyone's throat. But there are many, many ways to catch lots of fish on the river. Chief Grey Bear 1

We'd hate to wear you out from the effort. Or better yet, start a thread about another technique that will help folks of all skill levels catch more fish. Terrierman and Ham 2

(yes some good fish as well) I'm not saying you dont need anything else in your boat, I still carry everything that I always have. However, you fish your best numbers bait against a decent fisherman with a "ned" like rig, i would be shocked to see the ned lose. If some dont enjoy fishing that way, great, fish however you enjoy, but why criticize a method that you dont fish? I hate spinner baits, bait casting, and rarely tie on a crank, but I have never gotten on the table rock forum to tell the guys using those things that i personally don't enjoy fishing that way. Its fishing, enjoy it.
