Smithvillesteve Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Thanks for the input boys. I will definitely give it a shot up here at Smithville. By the looks of some pics here on the site it looks like the Table Rock area got hit pretty hard by heavy rains. Now a nasty cold front has arrived. Ahhhh, gotta love spring time in Missouri!! Headed to LOZ for crappies monday and to Stockton tuesday for bass and eyes. Weather supposed to be back in the 70's. Cant wait to get back down to Table Rock though. I love that lake. Hopefully the water will be clean by then and everything is stable. You boys down there hang in there!!
*T* Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 My main concern with the "Rig", not paying close attention to what's happening on the other end of the line and small size of the bait, is too many deep hooked fish. Guess you can be a line watcher when possible, or shake/drag the bait some to identify bites, so deep hooking fish is minimized. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci

I deep hook more fish with c-rigs or T-rigs. And that #2 hook that I like to use on the Neds is easy to pop out if they do get it deep. I'm not saying that because I'm trying to sell people on using the Ned, that is just what I've seen from fishing it.
dwiebenga Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Which end of the TRD are you threading to the head? Can you show a pic?
Quillback Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I'm still using the cut in half Zinker. Looking at pics of the TRD, I'd probably put the bumpy end as the head. I don't know if it would make any difference however.

Have seen some pics from Ned where he rigged the little end against the head, and let the cut end flop around at the back. On the no feel and deep hooking thing...a lot of the time you are shaking it enough that you will feel them just sort of tug at it. Can be like a touchy live bait bite. And once in a while they will pound it like they do a fish doc. I don't have much trouble with it. Maybe one or two a day, out of forty or more. It is certainly better than having one deep hooked on a stickbait or football jig.

Can fish it on the riprap areas, over and through grass, and right down beside trees like a big jig. It is a sleeper deal on those big line-big bait lakes.
fishingaddiction Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I fished the TRD for the first time a few weeks ago. Rigged it with the bumpy end glued to the jig head. I caught them that way, but really don't know if it makes any difference. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

I've caught several fish on the Ned when I stuck my rod in the bottom of the boat while piddling around doing something else. Was wigged out each time I realized I had a fish on because I just knew it was deep hooked. However, I have never caught a Ned fish that was hooked anywhere except the top of the mouth. I'm a believer. Not saying you can't deep hook one, but that setup seems pretty resistant to it.
