Guest Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 so scrap the current valve to pump layout & mount the pump thru the hull in place of the valve? Where does the valve on the drain go? Also, this livewell is missing a plug & Im having trouble finding the right plug. A plastic coke bottle cap will barely screw on the drain hole fitting, if that make sense.
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 What do you need a plug for ? The valve goes on the drain line (that's your "plug"). Closed holds water/Open lets it out. The overflow handles the excess so you don't flood the boat. A thumb-valve at the spray bars allows you to decide which, or if BOTH livewells get water.
Guest Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Im confused now, but thats no surprise. This isnt an easy project for a guy with limited expereince in bass boat plumbing.
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Picture time... Simplest of all systems. Obviously if you want both LW running (spraying) at the same time then you'll run 2 pumps, each to its own spray bar, and eliminate the Y.
grizwilson Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Wrench, if the boat is on plane i do not think the thru hull would have access to water? Would that be an issue? I have been wrestling my old 87 champion so long that 350-400 is sounding rather reasonable. it is a flow rite, with the flapper that "auto" switches to recirculate when out of water (ha ha ha LOL) It looks much like the picture. Your drawing looks much more straight fwd. Thanks g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 No, you can't draw fresh water while on plane. I tournament fished/guided for 14 years (many of those out of a late 80's Champion)....and that issue never cost me a single fish.
Guest Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Right now, nothing is leaking & it works. So, Im going to hold off rebuilding it until something breaks. I dont feel comfortable with all the plumbing work. Thanks for all your insight.
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Well piss! You made me type and draw all that crap for nuthin?
grizwilson Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Well piss! You made me type and draw all that crap for nuthin? Well it sure is making me think. Will i have to remember to turn the livewell pump off when I run on plane or can it run dry for a while without harm? fishinwrench Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I always switched mine off, or if on "auto" it was on a 5/5 timer so if I left it on....no biggie.
