Kee sims Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Maybe check out a duckett micro magic around 7' mh Champ188 1
5bites Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Before you walk out with a duckett look down it really good for straightness. That goes for all but...
Bill Babler Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 1/4 to 3/4 is a really wide gap. 99.9% of the time a rod that throws 3/4 oz jigs would not be a crankin rod. I don't care who makes it. The closest I can think of is a Falcon Reaction. Swim Jig. Little more money however. Your trying to do to much. Sac River Jim 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 That little curado is not really made to wind crankbaits or blades either. Would be better suited to offset the weight of a big rod for flipping/pitching. The Falcon 6'6" 5 power is about as much of a do it all rod as you will find. Little beefy for something like a wart, but not impossible. If price is more of factor the St Croix Triumph is a decent rod for the dollar.
Sac River Jim Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I agree with Bill. If it was me I'd run up to sportsman factory outlet on Bennett Street and talk to Jim Loven. Lews has a cranking rod designed by David Fritz for sale for 50 bucks. then i'd let Jim fix me up with one of the first production Lews Custom rods to match what i was trying to achieve. those black custom rods arent no slouches for less than 80.00 bucks.
Members raise the motor Posted April 3, 2015 Author Members Posted April 3, 2015 Thanks for all the advice. I learned a lot in researching the rods mentioned. Gotta get some of those rods later when I retire and fish full time. Now I know why a serious bass fishermen has a half dozen rods on deck. Called Jim at Sportsman's and he recommended I start with a close-out Lews Team TL76MHFC. He said it would be a good compromise like some of the rods recommended here. He is closing out his $199 line of Lews Team for $100. Rod is on its way. Jim is indeed a great guy. He would have liked to match me up in person but felt the Lew's would get me started. I'll go see Jim when I retire and move down. OAF has lots of great and helpful fishermen. Thank you all! Joe Sac River Jim 1 "God always gives His best to those who leave the choice to Him." Champ188 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Jim is indeed a good fellow and a darn good fisherman. You did well to buy from him. Sac River Jim 1

rps Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 OMG, good advice that leads to an informed choice. Doesn't get better than that. Champ188 and Sac River Jim 2
Sac River Jim Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Joe I hate to tell you this but you might see a half dozen rods on the deck but usually theres atleast that many more in the rod boxes and another dozen or so at the house. i'm not speaking for everyone but just myself I have what is called ''just in case syndrome'' when it comes to fishing equipment. I buy it just in case I might need it later.
