Boy it is good to see you all really do like each other. I want to name the shack you guys will be fishing out of. I will let you guess the name and here is the hint, The B-52's sang this song. It is a good one,

Heck, I like everybody!

This is a family forum. I'm not sure a bunch of men in a Love Shack is appropriate.

My grandfather would call them ice shanties. He would use hand carved fish decoys and jig them looking into the icy depths waiting for northern pike. When the pike swam by to inspect the decoy he would spear the northern. I remember as a kid visiting during the summer peeking into the shanty checking out the hand forged spear heads. Like a frog gig on steroids. So heavy actually it was more of dropping it into the fish. He also just fished in the shanty. Would of loved to spend more time and had his spears and decoys now. Chief I would share a shanty with you and if the fish were not biting we could discuss world affairs and solve the problems it has.

Been many world problems solved in the ice shanty. I've spent way to many days in a shanty, none of them wasted.  I still use Grandpa's decoys when I get to fish up north.  Spearing is like buck fever or a hung up gobbler, you can see the pike looking at decoy or live sucker just out or range.... Makes a guy crazy.

    Color me jealous Deadstream,

That is way too cool that you get to carry on the tradition. Now here we go on a tangent to variety pack fishing. Still variety pack I guess just another way to do it. Now that we have solved world problems have something to show. Although I do not have grandpa's decoys I did purchase a few years back a modern one. Did some trading and cash to boot for it. Not from the maker but from a go between. Lynn Zwart is the maker. The seller had several varieties of fish types to pick from. I chose a rainbow trout. Although this could be a working decoy it is more folk art to me. Copper fins and leaded where it should be to make it work right., enjoy,

Heck we can just build a shanty.

It doesn't have to be on ice.

Yes we can Chief but I think we already have one called the Chat Room. Problem is some of us might be getting in trouble in there. I won't say who though :)

Oh I like face to face. Let's all sit at a table and have a beer and chips. I think we'll find we are much closer in thought then we pretend on here.
