DChance Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Had a club tourney Saturday out of Larry Gale. Water was pretty stained. Could barely see the trolling motor head in the water. We fished everywhere from about bridge up tje big Niangua to about the 5mm of big. All our fish were caught within about 2 miles from tje ramp. We do a card catch and release tourney so I dont know exact weights but caught what would have been about 16 lbs. All on a wiggle wart. Shallow chunk rock. No real pattern. 3 of the 5 came more on main lake chunk rock points. Two others were on the last chunk rock in the back later in the day. Not a lot of fish but good ones when they did bite. Thanks to those who helped here in other posts.
Jbrant Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Fished Saturday from about 8 to 5 from the 50 MM to the 45 MM. Water was cleaner then we expected and about 57-58 degrees everywhere. Caught my first fish (about 3 pounds) a little after 8 on a buzzbait behind a dock with some trash about 1/2 way back in the cove. Caught my second keeper - a smaller kentucky on a Space Monkey on chunk rock on the point. My brother caught a fat Kentucky around 3 on Wiggle Wart on a main lake point about 9:30. Then we went a while with out a keeper. Caught some 13-14" fish behind docks flipping tubes and beavers. Caught a short on a jerkbait and spinnerbait. Missed three strikes on a buzzbait. We fished all over - outside edges of pockets, inside small pockets, channel banks, mixed rock, chunk rock, main lake points, flipped some docks, flipped and buzzbaited some brush - basically anything where the rock looked good (chunk, mix of softball and pea gravel) or close to a spawning pocket. Might have seen a bed or two but nothing on them. Just about every fish we caught was in 4' of water or less though - just scattered without any pattern we could put together. Finished our day in Cartwright Springs on a couple of channel banks later in the afternoon. We each caught a keeper on the same cast - one on Space Monkey the other on a square bill. Moved to another channel bank and caught two more keepers on a soft plastic. Ended the day with 16 fish, 7 keepers. Best 5 went about 13 (got to get a new scale - good one quit, the other isn't real accurate). It was partly cloudy most of the day and had some wind - but we couldn't tell that either helped or hurt the fishing much.
nomolites Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 a good day. You should have fished BFL. Aren't spring BFLs just A-rig events these days..? Sounds like it was again yesterday at LOZ... conorsixtakc 1

fishinwrench Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I pitched a tube in 1-3' and had 15lbs in 3 hours. Wish I could have fished longer, I think I could have had 18-20#. conorsixtakc 1
DChance Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Wrench I couldn't get bit on a tube shallow. You should have entered tje BFL. Winner had 18 and some change.
Jbrant Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Fishingwrench - Where were those fish caught - channel banks, behind docks, pockets, etc??? Just curious where the better bites were for you. MOPanfisher 1
fishinwrench Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Hmmm, well if I had taken off from PB2 I wouldn't have fished the same places so it's hard to say how well I could have done fishing the mid-lake area. The other 7 hours of my day was spent working on this monster... ...so I probably made more money than the BFL winner that day.
Members RogueAgent Posted April 13, 2015 Members Posted April 13, 2015 I fished the BFL, my first ever, and ended up in 6th on the co-angler side. We fished around the 29mm in the Niangua. My pro was a class act and really made it a special day. He fished a shallow crank most of the day and a shakey head occasionally. He had 3 keeps, several shorts and lost two good fish on the crankbait. We had engine trouble which prevented us from making the run he had planned but we made the best of it. I had my first keeper near a brush pile between docks at near the mouth of a creek around 8:00 on a Megabass jerk bait and the bill broke on the next cast. I switched to a Spro 110 in Blue Bandit and caught a 5-5 on the point. Boat was in 17 fow and she hit halfway back from bank. Pro was right there with the net and a pair of pliers. I was shaking like a leaf. Ended the day with 9lb-10oz and I've been on cloud nine ever since. I caught one more keeper on the bandit and lost it soon after (should have retied). Switched to a 6th Sense jerk bait with a little blue in it. Caught several more shorts and a nice 18" walleye. Caught five or six shorts on a watermelon red zoom trick worm on a shakey head as well. Ended the day with ~20-30 bass with 3 keepers. Kyle's main concern was making sure we made it back to the weigh in to make sure I got to weigh my fish. If you get the chance to fish with Kyle Uptegrove you will have a blast. DChance 1
