Quick trip to Bennett before turkey season starts. Water is up a little and we had a few showers on Sat. Green tint to water with quite a bit of moss being kicked up when you wade. You could see your feet when you were waist deep, go much deeper and you had to feel for the the rocks. Fishing was very good for us. Size was better than what we saw two weeks ago. Olive was the key for catching them. We missed a lot of fish, but still hooked a bunch. Crowd was light. If you can get down this week I don't think anyone will be there. Might go back after I kill a bird this week nothing yet this morning.

Went down to bssp over the weekend as well . Did well using power bait fishing from the bank in zone 1 by the gauge house . Used pink salmon eggs before switching. Can't wait to go again to try out my new 303 combo in the spring with power bait .

Ha! Agents must be napping, or too busy running plates to be sure nobody is behind on child support. :)

Once again.... LOL

Although I have been seeing a ton of people fishing from the bank in zone 1 compared to what there used to be. And yes,, using power bait and soft plastics. Some people just refuse to follow rules.?

Thanks for the report. Hope the size of the fish keeps up like it has been. Definitely better than this time last season.

Plus they claim to have undercover agents in the stream too. I have yet to see them bust anyone so I am pretty skeptical of that claim. I could bust someone every time on the stream.

I have to say, my observations have been the opposite. In 3-4 trips each of the last 3 years, I honestly cannot say I have seen one case of bait in zone 1 or 2. I don't go out of my way to look but it would seem pretty obvious.

Those undercover agents have relocated to montauk. Better fishing there.

Back in the 80's there was a dude we called New-wave that was a Bennett Spring spook, you could find him standing in the same spot at the high bank hole pretty much every day. Never saw him catch a fish, or change fly's, he just stood there quietly pretending to fish and if you spoke to him he'd just give you a nod. We used to joke about how bad that would suck for a job.

What blew his cover was that he never had a daily tag pinned to him.

"Dude, don't spark that doobie now, ol'NewWave is downwind". :)

I can't remember why we ever started calling him NewWave, wish I could.
