Duck Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hats off to Shumaker's Battery Outfitter, I had a year old plus battery that did not take a charge well so I stopped by with the boat and within 15 minutes they had installed a new one for free, not a question, and I was out of there. What nice and honest people. Good fishin, Duck. Quillback 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 1, 2015 Root Admin Posted May 1, 2015 Lane Shumaker is as nice a guy as you'll ever find!!
fishinwrench Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 As a battery dealer you are allowed about 2 of those swaps per year, after that you pro-rate or loose money. He obviously likes you.
Jerry Rapp Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 a question Wrench? Golf Cart Batteries. My golf cart is 36 volts, 6, six volt batteries. And they are HEAVY. I asked my friend at the Golf Cart Shop, about hooking 3 deep cycle trolling motor batteries together to get 36 volts into the golf cart. He said he has known several who have tried, and never get through 9 holes (I get 36 holes out of golf cart batteries, and this is the norm until they wear down in 5 to 7 years). My question is, why not use Golf Cart Batteries in boats? They do weigh more, but since 90% of fishermen could care less about speed, wouldn't the extended capacity be better? I just bought 6 new batteries for the golf cart for $700, so the cost is not prohibitive. Thoughts?
fishinwrench Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Marine batteries are built with heavier cases, the plates are secured to withstand impact/vibration, and they are vented so as not to spill/leak electrolyte even if turned upside down. Aside from that I really don't know.
Members uofastudent Posted May 3, 2015 Members Posted May 3, 2015 I know trollers in MS that all use golf cart batteries and swear by them
