Kudos to you Denjac and you are spot on ... sometimes it really doesn't matter.

My Daddy passed way too soon when I was only 27. I still cherish the memories made when he took me fishing as a child. I'm definitely not the writer in the family, that's Champ188's talent, but I contributed the attached column to the now-defunct Central Pro-Am print version of Fishin' Magazine in 2009. I haven't looked at this column in a long time but nothing has changed - I cried when I wrote it. I cry every time I read it. Happy and sad all at once.

Dads and Moms, never, ever pass up an opportunity to take your families fishing.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

My father nearly died of cancer at 44 when I was 4. Despite a very bleak prognosis he made it and lived to be 82. When he got well he started taking my brother and I to Minnesota and Canada fishing for many years until we started frequent trips to TR.

These times spent with my dad fishing were some of the best times in my life. They are also some of my favorite memories.

If you can take your family fishing! ?

There's someone else to take fishing with you, take Dad, brother, uncle. Life is awful darn short to not take others with you too. My mom and dad lived on TABLE ROCK LAKE for over 25 years. Dad took anyone who to visit. I enjoyed the time with them until the end. Dad passed 14 years and Mom 4 years ago. I still pick up the phone to call them, can't do that any more.

So what I am saying is take all of your family fishing because you don't know that/you will be leaving us on earth!

most of my immediate family is gone now except an elderly aunt and my sister in western kansas. my cousin's 8 yr little boy in colorado eats and breathes bass fishing i can't wait for Jerry to bring him down here this summer so i can take them camping and fishing. here recently I have been meeting up with OAF members on Stockton and am really enjoying it. i'm meeting guys tomorrow and tuesday. tomorrow we are gonna do some walleye and crappie fishing then on tuesday some bass fishing. there are some great people on this site and if you can't take a family member or a close friend OAF members are the next best thing.

Thanks for posting your article Donna. So uplifting compared to the constant barrage of "dirty laundry" in the media.
