They used to have an annual air show out at Richards Gebaur complete with the Blue Angels/Thunderbirds. I work right on 71 Highway and it was always cool to see them practice in the days before the show. One time a Blue Angel came straight up 71 and shot past the bank.

We still regularly see them around Pomme de Terre lake. They generally don't sneak up on ya. Used to see a B2 occasionally but haven't seen one in a long time.

I attended those air shows annually until they closed the flight line.

I love that wart hog. It is one fine attact aircraft. they buzz around here all the time get very low over the lake. I have had them come sight in on a pontoon during the week. They are solow I can spell the burnt JP fuel. Great for nostagia from my Carrier days.

cool pics, Ness.

I was down in Destin a couple months ago and everyday was like a free airshow, F-16's, F-18's, F-22's, C130 gunships, big-butt Globemasters flying low, and attack helicopters of all sorts. I especially liked the A-10's. You could hear them letting loose with the rotary cannon in the distance and several bombs being dropped I don't know where, way off shore, but darn, what a thump.

I've always heard that the sound of 50 cal fire and sound of air cannons much like a loud "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" are one of the most intimidating sounds you can hear in the distance.

Not a vet myself, I think I'd almost pee my pants if I heard that stuff knowing it was coming after me. :-)

I saw F22's take off in Birmingham at the same airport where I was on the tarmac about to take off. Cool stuff.

And I heard 50 cals firing near Ft Bragg once while I was working during a site visit and traveling. Just a loud "POP POP POP POP POP POP"

I thought......."Man am I glad I ain't on the receiving end of that!!!!"
